Dubstep Girl's Massive 5AR4/5R4/5U4G Rectifier Review/Comparison! (Rectifer Tube Rolling thread)

You could try and replace the WE 422a with the 1950's La RadioTechnique France 5R4GYS that I posted in page 170. This might be a darker/warmer option without losing to much of the brilliance of the WE 422a. Another option would be to try a pair of cup getter GEC U52's. With these upper tier rectifiers it mostly comes down to individual preference/taste.

Furthermore you could try replacing the RCA 5691 with Mullard ECC83/CV181's. There is a very good 6SN7 tube rolling thread on the forum where you can find lots of good info as well:

Thank you so much. I will read up on that thread.

I ordered these. Will they work?

The RCA 6SN7 grey glass will work because WA5 drivers are 6SN7 and those are warm tubes.

I don’t know if those Cossor 53KU will work in WA5. Check with Jack Woo.

In WA22 and my other amps, 53KU is the warmest, followed by GZ32. GEC U52 I would place 3rd but it’s a great rectifier. I have those and GZ34, 596, 5U4G.

Woo Audio supply WA5 with a pair of 5U4G. 274b are also commonly used. Occasionally I see 596 being used. I believe the others are not suitable for WA5. Check with Woo Audio.

The 2 weeks that I spent with WA5le, it had Takatsuki 300b tubes, EML 5U4G rectifiers and Brimar 6SN7/CV1988 drivers. Even with Taks 300b, I thought that the WA5 sounded warm enough. I wouldn’t want it any warmer.

Somebody in this thread told me they would and I pulled the trigger on them. They weren’t cheap so they better work lol

No. They'll be plug and play.
You’re my hero. I was starting to panic. Thank you so much. Also I looked on Google for the Woo Audio Tube compatibility chart and couldn’t find it. If you could post a link when you have a second that way I can save it and save myself the headache in the future. You’re a good dude Robert. Cheers

The charts for their amps are on the woo website, on the relevant product page. but no worries as @RobertSM is a great repository of info on tubes!

Thanks @Roasty . I've learned and continue to learn alot from you. I always enjoy your posts and your eagerness to try new high-end gear. And of course your high-end cables thread. That's the best and lots of fun!
