Sorry you typed WA22 initially. For WA5 drivers, use RCA 6SN7gt smoke glass.

274b rectifier is usually used for WA5.

I have a Kron 274b but not a pair. And I purchased the RCA 6SN7GT Yesterday so that’s awesome. It’s in its way.

Any others besides the 274b?

You could try and replace the WE 422a with the 1950's La RadioTechnique France 5R4GYS that I posted in page 170. This might be a darker/warmer option without losing to much of the brilliance of the WE 422a. Another option would be to try a pair of cup getter GEC U52's. With these upper tier rectifiers it mostly comes down to individual preference/taste.

Furthermore you could try replacing the RCA 5691 with Mullard ECC83/CV181's. There is a very good 6SN7 tube rolling thread on the forum where you can find lots of good info as well:

You can’t use ECC35 in WA5. Only in WA22.

I thought you were asking about WA22 rectifier.

I’ve only heard WA5 with a pair of EML 5U4G rectifiers. Other rectifiers I’ve seen used in WA5 are 274b and 596.

You should try the RCA grey glass with WE274B.

The 2 weeks that I spent with WA5le, it had Takatsuki 300b tubes, EML 5U4G rectifiers and Brimar 6SN7/CV1988 drivers. Even with Taks 300b, I thought that the WA5 sounded warm enough. I wouldn’t want it any warmer.
