Okay, so my source is a Xonar Essence ST, and I'm wondering which headphones are overall better.

I don't listen to classical music and I mainly listen to indie-rock, pop, some hip-hop, maybe electronic.

I already have AD700s for gaming, and I want these new headphones for music and enjoyable sound-rich gaming, not just pinpointing footsteps.

I really want to get one of these ordered today, so please help me decide.

If you are using the Xonar, I would get the D2000 as the DT880 is voltage/current hungry (depends on which edition). The DT880 IMO sounds superior, but the D2000 has a fuller sound.

I'm sure my Xonar can handle it, other people have reported it driving them great.

Now I'm worried about the DT880 grill getting a dent in it, whereas the DT990 would not have that. =/

The DT880 has pretty strong grills, so don't worry about denting. And the STX will not drive them properly at all. I have a Xonar STX and it drives them kinda badly.

I think the dt880 sounds more accurate and are technically better. But I enjoy listening to the D2000 more, especially with rock and electronica. It sounds fuller and more fun. The dt880 can get kinda boring sometimes. I have the 2003 dt880 though, not the 2005 dt880.

The dt880 needs a lot more power to drive compared to the d2000.

Yeah the DT880 craves power. The STX won't be able to handle it at all.
