Hello all, noob here.

I recently purchased DT 770 Pro 80 ohm at Guitar Center, and put them through a 3 week break in spree.

Unfortunately they hurt my ears?

I'm not sure why - but I get a weird feeling as if i'm under water and pressure is being applied to my ear drum. As if my inner ear is  being sucked by the headphones. I even feel it underneith/behind my ear.

Its really killing the experience for me. I dont know what to do. Has anyone ever experienced this?

I've contacted Beyerdynamic and they suggested that its normal with Closed headphones.

This is bothersome because when I put on the headphones (before pressing play), it irritates me.

What can I do?

I can return these to GC until Jan 31s't but i'm afriad they will deny my return. Does anyone have recommendations for a successful headphone GC return?

If returning isnt an option, do you have any recommendations on modding them so they dont hurt?

Ive tried playing with the tightness but it doesnt work.

Please help!

Thank you

This is what closed headphones do. You get used to it. If you don't want to, I suggest getting some open headphones instead.

If you're that concerned you could install an array of straws around your face to allow airflow into... wait nevermind

How is it if you pull them slightly away from your head as you are wearing them? I wonder if drilling a small pressure relief hole would help without affecting the sound too much? (just thinking out loud here) This of course if you can't return them. I never had such a feeling with mine.

Yes, this is what closed headphones do the first itme you use them. Trust me when I say you get used to it.

You'll probably get a few headaches or neckaches from the clamping force of the 770pros for a little while too. They will also go away.

They hurt my ears too, but only when the music was playing.  The bass was wildly out of proportion with the middle frequencies, and I could literally feel air pressure from the bass on my hand when I held my palm against the headphone.  Scary to think what that does to your ears.  Don't be shy about returning them- I think you could in all fairness say that the sound of the headphone is unbalanced to a fault and unlistenable with music.  That painful pressure is not something that I experience with any other closed headphone (I've owned 6)- except maybe D7000 with electronica, where percussion can really sneak up on you.

I guess I was lucky...never had any uncomfortable pressure, even on the first day.

Does anyone have a recommendation for Semi Open Headphones similar to DT 770's ?
The DT's sound great but after a month i still havent got used to the closed canned vortex.

If the issue is clamping pressure this is easy to fix.
Gently apply outward pressure between your fingers to the metal cup forks until you feel them give a little.
Then try them out.
I keep mine very loose.
The bass also evens out over time.
I compared the 770 to 880 at Guitar Center and preferred the 770.
YMMV
Most Guitar Centers should have the 880s as demos.
They are semi-open version of the 770.
Try them out.

If your issue isn't clamping, what is it?
