Hey Headfi community,

Mike from Drop here. Wanted to let you know that we released our first closed-back headphone collaboration with HIFIMAN.

Outfitted with large 50-millimeter dynamic drivers and HIFIMAN’s innovative Topology Diaphragms, the HE-R7DX delivers excellent isolation, impressive details, and open-back-level soundstaging. Tuned for transparency, it’s a workhorse tailor-made for home and pro studios, as well as higher-noise environments such as communal living areas and commutes. Plus, it features custom earpads to provide uncompromising comfort—no matter where you choose to listen.

The one question I have, and have not been able to find any resource on is if the R2R Bluetooth adapter that comes with the Deva Pro will work on this? It looks like a closed back Deva but dynamic, so I’m hoping the wiring is similar to the Deva Pro.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like the cable goes in both sides, I'd say its unlikely to work, unless they are using a dual entry cable with internal wiring as well. EDIT: This is the old style hifiman headband, there's no room for a cable, and we'd see it. This isn't going to work.

On another note, R7DX has much higher sensitivity at the same impedance rating. You can expect impedance matching to be fine, but the increased sensitivity may bring the noise floor of the R2R adapter to audible levels, or if already audible, will make it far louder. Either way I wouldn't be holding out hope for good compatibility here

Thanks for the reply. That’s a shame…would love to have Hifiman closed back under the $1k mark that could use this module.

What are you guys doing? Hifiman = planars. Appreciate the price, but seriously how much collaboration did you guys do other than put Hifiman label on this?

If it was planar, it would cost $8000 if Dr. Fang thinks it sounds good.

Considering these headphones are dual entry

Hifiman verified that the R2R bluetooth amp/dac is not compatible with these headphones. They do not have the wiring between the headband that's required for the adapter to work.

As a brand HIFIMAN tends to do a lot of development and testing of new materials and processes. The dynamic drivers used in these headphones were an evolution of a driver originally designed for an IEM which was later scaled up to the larger 50mm version used in the R7DX.

I've got some questions. What are the inner sizes of the earpads? Is the headband big enough for big heads? :k701smile:

It shouts HOTSPOT :/

The inner volume of the earpad is roughly 2.3"wide, 2.6" tall and 1" deep. They also have a slight angle. Id consider these pads to be fairly roomy compared to one like the 6XX which is narrower.

The headband and sliders should be accommodating to those with larger heads, you can take advantage of the 30 day trial period to ensure they are a comfortable fit on your head.
