Do you think wearing full-size headphones in public makes you look like a spaz/geek/weirdo?

I too carry the man-bag. For a long time I resisted admitting it, but I finally had to be honest with myself -- that's what it is.

Unfortunately, I must also confess to carrying around a pair of SR60s and a Lafferty Headbanger in the bag for about a year. Both the phones and the amp are ancient history now, but yeah, I did it, and yeah, it was way geeky. It's a really good thing that we are allowed to hide behind our avatars around here.

A while ago, I was amused to hear some twit fashion "expert" talking on the Today Show about what sort of bags people carry. She said that in NYC, women obsess over what to carry, whereas men all carry Manhattan Portage messenger bags. Check! I've got a gray canvas MP messenger bag. It's simple, durable, doesn't attract attention to itself, and holds about as much as a steamer trunk.

Hello,
I wear my ultrasone edition 9 in public transportation. I do not care if people think it is weird or not. If someone else says jump off a bridge do I do it then, no, of course not. What is weird about it anyway. I have the good sound! And its still pretty easy to carry around. As long as I dont get robbed everyone else can think whatever they want and laugh at me because I have the nice music going on and wont hear it anyway.
Greetings, Anouk,

I thought it was safe to assume no one would be wearing those anymore. I used them in the 80's when I used to skateboard. We used it to carry little tools for our boards.

Messenger bags are nice but uncomfortable. I use a backpack when I need to carry a lot of stuff. If I could find a comfy messenger bag, I'd get one myself.

My only complaint is that the strap on my MP bag cuts into my shoulder when I'm schlepping a lot of stuff around in it. I went to their website after posting my confession, and I discovered that they have pads that attach to the strap; I'm seriously thinking of getting one.

I used backpacks when I was an undergrad (English and econ double major) and constantly lugging around half a library worth of books. For some reason I prefer the messenger bags now.

But here's an even scarier proposition: how about those bag/strap/velcro combinations they sell at HeadRoom that are designed specifically to hold your portable rig? They look pretty functional actually, but I'm thinking that dedicated luggage for my geeky portable audio rig might be tempting God to just get it over with and hit me with a bolt of lightning. I mean, the laughing and pointing from normal people I can live with, but divine retribution is something else again.

Depends on the thickness of the drivers. If they are really wide and parabolic then yes, they can look ridiculous. The best ones to wear outside would be something like the Equation Audio ones because they're flat at the back. The smaller ones are also good like the Portapro ones. The behind the head sets look freakin' ridiculous though, like the iGrado.

heh, i broke the 50-50 on the vote.

I'm using V6, and it's so comfortable (with beyer's pad), lightweight, foldable (if i need to take it off), not bulky on top of our head, and it fits me.

I used it in public several times, even it's not really that comfortable to have long cord hanging around, except we round it over our neck.

Other than "portability" problem, the look is really subjective, depends on your overall look.

Your hair style, hair length, color and face shape, etc.
big bulky headphones on the bald guy's head will look weird for sure.

these days i carry my HD205 with iBasso Boa strapped to the iPod with livestrong bands.

and Black Mamba orange interconnect.

many people look more at the amp than my headphones.,

they think its some kinda Detonator. ..lol

so we need a new thread 'Does carrying Portable amps make you look like a terrorist'

I don't care what anyone thinks. They can _ _ | _~ off if they don't like me wearing full sized cans in public. I find people who care what strangers think as weak, unworthy and pathetic.

Just my opinion of course.

Yep! Look pretty weird. Glad IEMs are available. You just look like a regular person but secretly have hi end sound.

Well there is that huge brick that is keep in my pocket with the IMOD, cryo'd wire and amp, but...

Yep, that's how to do it.
Big headphones in public are weird and antisocial.
