Did I get a bad pair of ATH-AD700's? I'm comparing them to SteelSeries Siberia V2's...

I know the mids are 'recessed'. But you guys make it seem like they're a gaping void. They're not. Yes, compared to a midcentric headphone, the difference is there, but alone, they're fine. This is why I hate headphone comparisons.

Well, it's really noticeable for me. The D2000's have a recessed midrange but it's still not nearly as bad. The D7ks have a little upper midrange congestion also. What OHM version did you have?

600ohm. I did have the E9 which is mid rich so maybe it's why I didn't have an issue with the DT990.

My DT880 was 32ohm, though I have a few friends with a combination of DT880s from 32 to 600ohm, and say they sound ridiculously similar 99% of the time.

That'd be silly, you already have the T1, no reason to downgrade. I sold my DT990 because I was blown away by the D7000. No reason to own two pairs of headphones that catered to the same music. That and I wanted to try something new.

If only soundstage mattered less to me, these decisions would be so easy.

By the way, when you used your D7000 w/ the mixamp, do you recall a lot of static? Because mine have a significant amount even at 0 volume, just turned on. My 600 ohm phones have none at all until the last inch or so. I have the 5.8.

Sadly, the D7000 is so sensitive, you will hear some static. I only get hiss at moderate to high volumes on the Mixamp 5.8 though.

The D7000 is incredibly sensitive. Anything can drive them relatively well. Of course they scale, but they sound stellar even unamped. A headphone this sensitive is bound to have some audible noise floor in certain setups. My HE4 doesn't have any static with the 5.8, even at high volumes. They are polar opposites in terms of sensitivity.

Is it possible to plug the E9 into the TX and not the RX? The E9 is on my computer desk and I lay back in the recliner with my RX so it won't reach.

Btw, what did you get the HE-4's for?
