Diana: the second release by Abyss Headphones!

Oh dude you hadn't heard yet about Sennheiser's new closed-back dynamic flagship?  Yeah, I don't have any links about it on-hand, hope someone here does, but by all accounts Senn are really hyping it up as something that's gonna be mind-blowing (and since I love stuff with isolation, something I myself might very well HAVE to get my hands on someday).

And honestly for that guy to have the MDR-V6 serve as on-ears, he must have very large ears.  Maybe he's eight feet tall?  Haha.  Or it might have something to do with the after-market pads he modded them with.

I'm 194cm.  Ears totally proportionate.  Bottom of the velour DT250 pad on my V6 is under my ear, the top I prefer on the top back side of my ear, pulling it up slightly.  So for me, i guess they're 40% on ear, 60% around ear lol.

So maybe...since my ears are smaller...the Diana will be over-ear for me!

Well dude if your ears are totally proportionate for a male of your stature, that mean that they are, in fact, quite large ears.  You're about six-and-a-half feet tall, after all!  Haha.  So yeah, I suppose that many headphones which would be comfortably over-ear for the majority of folks, turn out to be only semi-over-ear for you!  Which stinks, it must be a real hassle trying to find full sized cans with which you can achieve a good seal for proper bass response >_<  Me, I'm the opposite. . .I'm 5'8", and my ears are a tad bit on the small side for a man my height, so pretty much every pair of cans advertised as over-ear do, in fact, fit my ears just fine.  Yes, even the infamously hard-to-fit Sennheiser Momentums (although I hate their sound, lol).

HAHA dude keep wishing, you know that isn't gonna happen unless you have full-blown BABY-EARS! =-P

If a headphone that is on-ear for someone else is over-ear for me, it seems that the chances for this one aren't bad.

But the difference is that the MDR-V6 is supposed to be over-ear, it's simply on-ear for him because he is a very large guy who thus has large ears!  The Diana, on the other hand, is being designed with the intent of being an inherently on-ear headphone.

On ear, over ear, it really is just a matter of proportions and appearances, isn't it? Keep in mind we can produce amazing acoustics and bass without a seal. I think this is a large part of the problem with on ears of days past, trying to position the headphone on your ears to sound just right. We look at these things as simple design challenges. This will not be an issue with Diana, I can assure you-- Pretending that it will be is pointless negativity.

It's funny, I remember the arguments not too long ago about our then upcoming Abyss AB-1266 being a single-sided planar magnetic, so much back and forth about how bad it would sound, how it can't be done, etc. etc., as if it were to be the worst headphone ever... As Nomax would say, lol

I was just thinking this thread is beginning a lot like the Abyss thread did with everyone bagging it before they tried it...

There are only two things I've knocked about the Abyss, which is their looks and getting them to fit properly.

I did say because of the how they look I'd never put them on, but with what's been written about how good they're supposed to sound, I decided to try them when I had the opportunity at a Hi-Fi show, however because of the outside noise at that show I couldn't hear them properly, so was unable to tell if they sounded good or not.
Because I couldn't get them to fit properly, might've made the outside noise more noticeable.

Now some are saying that looks aren't important, and that SQ is the only thing that matters, it's true that SQ is the most important thing, but I wonder how many have a girlfriend or wife that looks like Miss Piggy.

Will the Diana be designed so that it is supposed to rest away from your ears, like the AB-1266? Or will a full seal be recommended?

Can you tell us anything about the ear pads? Since they will be magnetically attached, will they be asymmetrical with gaps like the AB-1266 pads?

Only for the rich:blush::cocktail:

Or those like me who spend a disproportionate amount of their money on headphones.

Knowing my luck Miss Piggy would make me sign a prenup.

I'm sure the Diana will sound good. Will the sound quality be good enough to warrant the high price tag? We'll find that out as time goes on. I'm still not thrilled with the on ear part. I just hate anything pressing on my ears. I hope they figured out a way to make the on-ear headphones comfortable for long listening sessions.
