Diana: the second release by Abyss Headphones!

@Svstem my comments concerning the V281 concerns it's sonic character.

Notice how it's output power drops with decreasing impedance. This is a soldi state amp, but it doesn't act like one, and it certainly wasn't designed for planars of today.

All amps will decrease output power with decreasing impedance at some point. They are not made of infinite current after all.

Of course the important thing is to look at the power output at the impedance of the headphone at hand. At 32ohm the V281 already has about double the power compared an amp your company recommends. As you kindly noted the V281 has a lot of voltage swing on tap so with the 40ohm impedance of diana V2 it's power output is only gonna get higher. (Of course the same could be happening with the broadway but it's specs are more limited, so i can't tell from that).

Would be nice if it were that simple. Bottom line, wrong system for the job.
Do you have measurements for the Broadway so that we can compare?

Come to think of it, we did a video on amps...

Why would I give views/ad revenue (to watch a video that won't answer my questions) to someone who can't answer simple questions? Svstem is right, your belittling responses in general continues to fuel your company's PR disaster.

For sure. Ive just read a couple of posts questioning the Broadway's output and while I was also skeptical of the low wattage Im quite happy with it.
I asked why do the guys at Abyss use the GSX Mini in their personal rigs vs the Broadway? Didn't really get an answer from them besides that they're both good. But why choose the Mini over its "matching" amp?

I decided to go for the Broadway since I found a good deal on the classifieds and also when I experienced brown outs the battery back up came in handy along with my battery powered DAC. It seems like most Broadway owners enjoy the sound but looking at the internals of the Formula S and Powerman is very disconcerting,
I used to have the GSX Mini and listening to the 1266 TC on it vs the Simaudio Moon 430 HÁ, the 430 was night and day better. Sold the GSX and am very happy with the 430.

People spend too much time on specs and graphs. Pick up your gear and go listen to music and enjoy it, PLEASE. It’s much better than fighting over an abstract hobby.
Chill guys. Just state facts, getting personal isn’t helpful.

There is a site that test audio equipment....can't think of what its called right now./s:smile_phones:

I doubt Mr. Punch down would post over there.
No measurements of Broadway anywhere at all that I can find. Just Broadway s on l7

Given an amplifier has a specific output power into 100 ohm load (headphone) and half that power into 50 ohms, how would you characterize the output impedance of the amp? What’s causing a 50% drop in power when it should have doubled down? I mean, we’re not talking driving a dead short here, 50 ohms is sort of an average as headphones go. More importantly, how does this relate to its sound character?
I mean it is? It's just ohm's law.

how would you characterize the output impedance of the amp?
Power curve is litteraly entierly independent from output impedence. On top of that, even if the v281 had 2,000,000 ohm OI it still wouldn't change the FR of DTC as Diana (at least the v2 and phi that have been measured) have a flat impedence curve (as is expected by nature of being a planar).
