Most important is a big hard drive or flash if possible at least 160 gig, sound quality at par with a rega cd player at least, built in headphone amp something like a heed canamp in quality then something like ipods interface and of course at least 50 hours battery life and this all has to fit in my pants pocket... there you go... Dont care about video but if video is there it should play xvid/divx avis at least. Audio support for flac, and all mp3s is enough for me

Id buy this for $1000 or under... and it should be waterproof and bulletproof with lifetime battery support. Never will I need another kind of DAP!

1. 3.5" 16.7 million color 16:9 ratio high resolution touch screen display.
2. 30G+ storage, flash only.
3. 40 hours music, 10 hours video. (battery)
4. Superb sound quality.
5. Metal+glass construction.I want something damn near invincible to scratches.
6. User replaceable and upgradeable battery and storage medium.
7. I WANT IT IN BLACK, AND TO _NOT_ LOOK LIKE AN IPOD!

My ideal digital AUDIO player would be:
  1. No DAC, no Amp stage, only digital out via not only coax, but usb also
  2. Full lossless support for any popular format (FLAC, ALAC, APE, etc)
  3. Gapless playback
  4. Flash storage up to 64gb (this is a realistic number)
  5. 20 band custom EQ that is accurate
  6. Customizable browser
  7. tactile interface
  8. No video/photo support. This is an ideal Digital audio player, not idea portable entertainment device.
  9. Ideally the player would only be as small as the number of memory chips.

The foobar2k of DAPs. It would be a pain to build a portable setup that's for sure. It'd just be nice since you can control what DAC and Amp you use. Also, since it's basically a flash hard drive playing digital out, it'd be ridiculously small.

Hopefully it will have a good soundcard/dac built in, and id bring an extra battery and a charger along, and maybe if it doesnt sound good enough stock, a Pico Dac

I can use Foobar or WinAmp or something. Have XM on it, an air card to download music on the fly,or listen to internet radio or XM etc.

Except for me, what portable manufactures need to do is get some decent BASS into these god damn things, seriously.

My X-fi Drives the **** out of my headphones, and I can rattle my head to bits with Bass, can't get anywhere near to doing that on any portable i've ever heard.

Someone please step up the game with Bass reproduction, pleaseee..

Well, being completely realistic:

- 16 or 20gb Flash
- Gapless playback for all formats
- Audio - mp3, ogg vorbis, FLAC support
- ID3 browsing for all formats
- No video needed but colour screen with easily customised themes
- 10 band custom EQ
- Headphone out quality of X5 or better
- Proper line out
- Battery life of 30+ hours
- Size of my D2 (screen doesn't need to be as big)
- Good, tactile controls
- Rockbox-like playlists on the go
- m3u playlist support
- UMS
- fast, responsive UI
- Case material like that of the X5
- decent bundled headphones - MylarOne X3 sort of sound

If someone can't make that at the moment for a reasonable amount of money, then I've lost hope...
