I concur with this assessment - the AH-D9200 is not a leader in terms of isolation, but it's far from the most egregious offender, too. The TH900 Mk2, on the other hand, is frankly quite bad at blocking out ambient noise.
Thankfully, once the music starts playing, a lot of the unwanted noise is relegated to a corner.

How does the AH-D9200 compare to the Sony MDR-Z1R in terms of isolation? I read your review comparing the two but don't recall that you mentioned how they do head-to-head on this metric.

Am back again, found a deal on eBay for brand new 9200s for $1400 in my country. Seeing as I can't get these in stores without paying double that just for a warranty, would it be wise to purchase these or wait months and pay $1000+ more for a warranty on them?

187 stars 100% positive, I've never bought headphones off eBay though. and I heard Denon doesn't do any repairs especially here in Australia but I'd really like these after hearing them once

Ahh yeah. I debated between warranty and no warranty as well. At the end of the day, I just like having the peace of mind that it's covered by Australian consumer law. Also, Melbourne Hi-Fi said they would organize any repair needed.
I get that it's more expensive though. Tough decision because Denon is not too friendly with repair/warranty claims when not bought through an authorized dealer.
Anybody else here own Audeze LCD-XCs along with their D9200s and, if so, what do you think of them? I find my XCs a bit lacklustre compared to the Denons, so they don't get much head time. The Denons are far more transparent and engaging. People say that the XCs have good technical performance, but the Denon's seem to be far superior.
At least the XCs are the first Audeze's I've listened to where EQ isn't mandatory, but then there isn't much scope to improve them with EQ either.

Not to put anyone down, this is just my personal opinion, but in my personal experience the XC was so bad, in every regard more or less, that I was honestly surprised how it had gotten so popular, when I heard it - So needless to say I'd consider the D9200 leagues and bounds better.
I don't think it was a replacement, the 9200 is in a different category and upmarket. They weren't replacing it, they were just adding a headphone higher up in the market.
Regardless, the AH-D9200 is an amazing headphone, even if it would be replaced.
I had the 5200, and they were some of the best headphone for their price and segment, even tho it was on the bottom rung of the Denon high end ecosystem. If I werent a big guy, I wouldve kept mine...the fit are made for people medium size proportions.
I have been listening to the D7200 for a while and curiously I have documented myself on the D9200, from what I read they are the same drivers with bamboo cups, more precious finishes and a more beautiful cable .. If that were the case, it would not be enough to put the cable on the D7200 to have the same sound?

A few pages back there was a discussion on this and I posted some photos of the differences between the drivers. Most of the difference in sound between the D7200 and D9200 is due to the driver. Cups make a very subtle difference. Pads seem to be just about identical.
