Just to confirm the mdr z1r soundstage is not as good as the denon 9200 soundstage. But the previous totl sony r10 had better soundstage than the denon 9200?
You have the R10 on your list ? I only heard the R10 once and its soundstage was not the best not better than the z1r. You really think a lot.

r10 sells for 5K plus. i have to stay in at weekends to afford my TT2. It's a hard life. :triportsad:

Last question how does the 9200 compare to pm1 or pm2? i notice you have them on your signature. i currently use pm1 with a pure silver cable into mscaler/tt2. this advice is really essential for me. i've been using the pm1 for 2 years and adore it even though soundstage is smaller.

Cowon PM1 /2 the 9200 sounds really good but I like adding an amp for extra punch.

The R10 has much more realistic soundstage compared to the Z1R. Image placement is much more precise. I believe the Denon has smaller soundstage size than the Z1R.

There you go , not everybody will agree , hence the reason head fiers keep spending money chasing the holy grail

Well my CD3000 also has larger soundstage compared to the Z1R but the Denon has such a beautiful sound and I think they deserve more following than the MDR-Z1R.

if it's the holy grail then do we do nothing. we need the hardware to access the music. but yes sometimes when you already have the golden egg you will change it for something else to chase a different but not always better sound.

purk overall i have to pick between the sony or denon which would you choose and why?

I like the Denon better. It’s a very musical headphones. Size of soundstage is smaller but it get everything more right than the Z1R. Bass on the Denon extends very deep without exaggeration on the mid bass.

Smaller than the Z1R but very precise. The Denon is also easier to power compared to the Z1R. It’s a beautiful headphones.
