I will x2 him I paid $650 shipped for mine new from J&R. My friend who sold me on these cans (gave me a long demo listen) was able to get them off J&R at $550 shipped but that was almost 2 years ago and doubt you'll ever see that price again.
Do you guys have any thoughts on ebay sellers? I've never heard anything about fake Denon's, so I think buying from a reputable seller should be no problem. There are a few up there for $699 which is about the max I'd want to pay for a pair of 7000's.
I've not heard anything about fakes. Of course that doesn't mean there are none, but doesn't seem like a popular headphone to fake.
Considering that many of us were able to get ours new for prices less than that I find it entirely plausible that they can sell for $699. E-bay test... if it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. $699 passes that test, it's not too good to be true.
I'm too lazy to write a full impression, but at the same time, I felt like I needed to report back how D7000+Burson HA160+DACPort LX combo worked out. DACPort is still not done burning in, but I think the overall sound has settled in.
The big question that I had when I bought HA160 was that won't be too much for D7000 as they're known to be warm sounding. After owning HA160 with D7000 for a couple months, I can say that the combo sounds really good. Some said that they like the high impedance output better, but I like the low impedance output for D7000. It's very punch and live sound together without crossing the line. With the combo, I needed a decent DAC to complete the sound.
iStreamer was the first thing that I've tried as my source is iPad. While the sound was decent, the emphasized bass was too much with already powerful HA160 and D7000. I turned on bass reducer equalizer on iPad to compensate for that. The next cheaper E7 didn't last long because it magically removed the bass from my chain, which I never wanted; I need the punchy bass that rocks my head.
Finally, after so much more reading, I've tried DACPort LX (DACPort without the amp). Even within the first couple weeks of the ownership, I can say that this DAC fits like a glove with the other parts of my system. DACPort's rich midrange complements very well. So, I don't know how it's going to sound like with mid-heavy Sennheisers, but I have a Denon, so not a problem to me.
With this system, everything is so clear, yet smooth. The bass is punch and never loose. Female jazz vocals never sound this sweet to me. Even not-so-delicate pop songs sound very natural. I think HA160 and DACPort LX do excellent job of bring out the best of the Denon: nice lively natural sound. I would highly recommend this combo to anyone who likes to maximize the sound signature of D7000.
Good post. I've been thinking about where to go from my HDP and it seems like Burson is a solid choice.
I got my 7000 yesterday, they're pretty incredible. Nothing really new to add, it's exactly how everyone describes them. The same awesome Denon sound but more refined. I'll have my D5000 in the for sale forum sometime this week if anyone's interested.
Has anyone dealt with Dakmart before? They have the D7000 for $600 with shipping only $32 to Australia. The best price locally is approx $1000 inclusive of shipping so this looks like a great deal.
