Denon AH-D7000

I got a source from a member where I can get a Ruthenium version for $1125. I bought D7000 for $650 so $475 more would get me a pair of Ed. 8. Tempting but  I just can't get past $1K mark without auditioning first

Those who have both D7000 and Ed.8 can you provide a bit of info on how they compare in the bass department? Quality and quantity?

First song...Daft Punk - Tron Legacy (End Titles) (FLAC)

Oh man...After only having the TMA-1 for the past month or so these are a godsend. First thing I noticed was the weight. Dear god I did not expect them to be this lightweight.

Sound wise though...yeah...I'm diggin' it. I can't decide what I want to listen to next...

The D7000 has boomier bass (I like Frank have owned it twice...though I no longer have it on hand). But that thump does/can come off a bit woobly and lack detail in comparison to the Edition 8s. I would say both go equally deep.

So if you want absolute bass slam, the D7000s. For incredible bass slam (though not as powerful) with more control and finesse, the the Ed.8s.

Bass Quantity
D7000: 10/10
Ed. 8s: 8.75/10

Bass Quality (control, definition, etc...)
D7000: 7/10
Ed. 8s: 9/10
HD800/LCD-2: 10/10 (just as a reference point)

Again, just my two cents.

They do sound pretty great. They have a little bass than I expected though. At least at the moment (haven't decided if I subscribe to the burn in theory yet).

Edit: I think it's something on my end...At the moment something seems off about my TMA-1s too...It's weirding me out. I'll think I'll hold off judgement until tomorrow...Something feels wrong.

Nice comparison, thanks!
Now I gotta find a way to listen to these!

Very similar to my first reaction. I came from PRO 900 and was like, where's the bass?!? After burning them in AND listening to them for about a week, everything sounded very nice. Depending on what you have been listening to you need to give your ears and brain some time to adjust. Well, at least that's my theory

I'm coming from the Pro 750. It doesn't necessarily feel like...less bass necessarily...it just doesn't rattle my head like I expected. Even if they don't turn out to be my goto headphone, they're definitely keepers...at least I think so. lol

EDIT: One thing I will say that they do really well is instrument separation. This is the biggest thing I've noticed so far vs my other headphones.

I liked how the bass sounded right out of the box with the D7000, and I was exclusively using the Pro 900 before that. I knew it wasn't going to be as much impact, but its just an overall more balanced sound. The bass is perfect on the D7000, not too much not too little IMO.

I need a chance to really hear the Pro 900.

Also, I think my biggest problem right now is my DAC. I'm still (sadly) using the E7/E9 combo. The E9 is fine...but the combo means the E7 is still my DAC...which is a problem. I've got my J3 running through my E9 now and it sounds much better. I'm using the EQ settings I use with my TMA-1s and it brought up the bass a little.

Luckily the DAC situation will be fixed very soon as I have a D100 on the way. Get hype...again.

Coming from a much lesser headphone, the MDR V900HDs, the bass was bit too much for me at first.  After listening now for about 6 months and after getting something more powerful to drive them, I'm impressed with textures and details of the bass and treble on these.  You can instantly tell a well recorded album from one that is not.

And what's wrong with E7/E9 combo? Or, E7 being a DAC? I haven't had a chance to listen to other DACs but is E7 inferior in any way? I thought it works quite well with my Mac Pro.

I use the e9/e7 with them and I love it. Nothing said about that combo i don't care what anyone says. Granted I just bought a Schiit Lyr and a HRT music streamer II+, so in a few weeks I can see which I prefer for the d7000. I'm sure the d100 will make them sound better, but I wouldn't expect a night and day difference.
