And what's wrong with E7/E9 combo? Or, E7 being a DAC? I haven't had a chance to listen to other DACs but is E7 inferior in any way? I thought it works quite well with my Mac Pro.

What other dacs/amps have you heard?

I get some noise when they're paired together that really bothers me...That's my only real complaint other than the extremely limiting about of inputs. Pretty much USB only. With the D100 I'll get Coax, USB and Optical ins.

EDIT: Plus the E7 just feels cheap after handling some higher end stuff.

I dunno about you guys, but the D7000 has plenty of bass for me, and I come from XB500/XB700, DT770 Pro 80, M50, DT990, and other bassy phones. I think it sounds quite glorious off the E7/E9. No lack of anything on my end.

The noise your hearing is the e7 charging, which seems to cause an annoying hiss. Once the e7 is charged the combo is dead silent. This also pisses me off, but definetly not a deal breaker. once I figured out what the noise was I just turn the combo on and off accordingly so i don't have to deal with the hiss.

Figured that's what it was. I wonder if turning off USB charging would help with this. Although I have one of the earlier E7s that doesn't require it to be on to work, so I'm sure if it would change anything. I'll give a few things a try.

EDIT: Turning off USB charge has seemed to remedied the noise. Now the only thing I have to complain about is the freakin' volume knob makin' noise. ;)

That's why I wasn't hearing any noise as I only charge when the battery gets low and I charge overnight while not listening. All other times, USB charging is off on my unit. Let us know how D100 and Arrow 12 work out compared to E7/E9 combo. I would be interested in this.

If the Arrow ever friggin' gets here I'll let you know. lol. Got the email that it shipped almost 3 weeks ago. ;~;

I'm looking forward to the Arrow very very much. I'll let you know how it pairs with the D7000, but I think it's going to be blasting the DBA-02 (my next purchase) for the time that I own it.

EDIT: I'll do some A/B with the D100 and E9/E7 combo.

Every D7000's wonderful piano gloss finish seems to be unique.  To me, mine are darker and more reddish.

On a related note. Unboxing porn. Was going to make a new thread, but there's enough of them around.

I have 1st domestic release E7 that doesn't need to be on to work as a DAC, but even on while charging, I get zero noise/hiss. I just must be extremely lucky that my E7/E9 is dead silent. My Lyr on the other hand has its unique flavor of hiss/hum with the D7000, but very little to the point of it not being audible with music or even a fan on in the same room.

Hoping my D100 is dead silent. I don't mind a hiss with audio stuff though...it was the particular noise when charging that the E7 made for me. This high pitched (and the pitch changed constantly) whining noise. Dear god it was infuriating.

Wow. You're the first person I've heard this from. I figured this was why they added the option to turn off USB charge, but honestly never got any noise. I'm sure I would have been mad too.

The good thing is that the E7 last a LOOOOOONG time without charging, so I'd probably just charge it once a week while sleeping.

On topic, I got emailed my receipt from E-Expo, and called the repair center. I have to put in a repair order on some site and ship the D7000, which is gonna have to happen on Monday. Meh. I miss them dearly.

I've been a little nit picky with the sound on my D7000s but the one thing they definitely have going for them...COMFORT. Dear lord...They're just ridiculous...

While they are comfy, I feel they could clamp just a little more. They're too slippery for me. I wish they had velours too. I'm so sick of pleather/leather.
