I to tried the LME49720HA mod on a Solo SRGII and at first I loved it. With further use I found it a bit fatiguing and returned to the original op-amp. Please note that this is all a personal opinion and your milage may vary. Good luck.

Hi mrarroyo,

Off topic - I get an AKG K1000 for a while .... I hope my Solo or WNA MKII could drive them well, mostly I hear with moderate loudness ...

an fascinating challenge  .... K1000 vs. D7000 vs. Q701 vs. K501

Hey, I'm currently situated in the UK and I was wondering where I could get these headphones for a reasonable price, compared to the american counter part, amazon seems to over charging in the uk by a large amount so I was wondering if there was any place where I could find them xD, there's been a lot of them being sold in the classifieds but the only ship to the u.s. or because of my low post count they won't sell so I was wondering where to find them commercially, thanks in advance!

I currently used D-7000 with HeadRoom Desktop Amp/DAC (non Ultra), upgraded from DACMagic + EF-5

The desktop Amp/DAC its just amazing with D-7000, i really cant be more happier.

I have D5000 for a week  now. Paired with e9 and it sounds amazing. I will take them to be my office setup and buy D7000 and e9 for my home setup. So long, Ultrasone pro900!

That is great.
But have you compared the D5k to the D7k? There are differences... and substantial ones at that.

Not that it bothers me personally (I think the D7000 sounds absolutely stellar off the E9), but the E9 has a 10ohm output impedance which technically inhibits low ohm headphones like the D7000. An amp with a lower output impedance (0.5 to 2ohm, for example) would be a better match for the D5000. So I suggest something else for the D5000 and see how it stacks up to the E9.

This is why I jumped in with the EF5, even though it's way more power than I need for D7000s. The sound of them together is just stunning, great synergy there.

I personally wouldn't go for the EF5 because it's a warm amp, and the Denons are already warm.

D7000s aren't warm, up to ~10k they're actually quite neutral. The highs are rolled off a bit causing people to judge them that way.

I also wouldn't call the EF5 a "warm" amp. It's a little relaxed compared to most SS, but it's not like say, the "honey-sweet" WA6, IMO.

Umm, I don't like warmth myself, and I consider the D7000 the warmest headphone I would ever consider (and love).

What you say contradicts a lot of statements said about the EF5. Just saying.

Well, the HE-500 is "warmer" than the D7000, you can tell rather quickly while listening, without even looking at the charts, and the EF5 is the amp that was made for them.

Personally, I think people see the tube for the input and automatically plant it in their mind that it's going to be a certain way. I've found that its sound leans much more towards SS, but like i mentioned before, just a little relaxed.

Sounds like the D5000 might be what I ultimately want in a headphone.  A D2000 without the treble spike that steps all over its mids would be nice for me!  Is the D5000 that?  Based on raw graphs alone it looks like all 3 denons have a treble spike that makes them unnatural.

I like the WA3 a lot-- actually prefer it a bit over the fine WA6. But yeah, I would not pair it with the Denons. A little too soft/uncompelling IIRC. I'm happy to have both the WA3 and WA6, but use different cans for each (primarily the Beyer T1's with the WA3 and the Denon D7000's with the WA6). There are many other amps that would match well with the Denons. I'd like to hear the aforementioned Graham Slee series, for example.

I totally agree as the Woo 3 just does not have the juice for the AH-D7000s. Too soft is a great term. Even though the 7000s are easy to drive, more power gets them to shine, getting a faster response with more authority. The bass becomes more pronounced and more controled with more amp. I like the W 5LE with the AH-D7000s as even though the W 5 LE is known for mid-range magic, it also complements many other aspects of the 7000s, bringing them to a dynamic new level of performance with the correct cable choices. The wrong cable choices ends in the system still sounding muddy and slow. The right cables bring out a clear mid-range as well as tighten up the bass leaving the AH-Ds in no need of any after-market mods. The AH-Ds will scale up to any correct signal you feed them getting up to an amazing level of performance. They are really much more heaphone than many realize at this point in time.
