I much prefer the look of my new Snow Leopard skin.

It may be psycho acoustics, but I swear the distortion has decreased enabling much better sound at louder levels, as the velvet is tuck in between the original ear pads and the housing, creating a tighter and stiffer ear pad at the seal. Very easy mod if any one is interested, no stitching required for the ear pads. Just cut out the shape and tuck in the velvet around the edges with a credit card or photo ID card etc. The head band I unscrewed the little screws for the metal rods that insert into the top of the cup to slide on the pre stitched head band cover.

Oh and you thought they were comfy before, try some velvet.

WRT to your new D7000s, I highly recommend sourcing a set of J$ pads. Real improvement in sound stage, taming of some sibilance and better noise isolation/comfort! Best headphone upgrade under $100 IMHO.

Hmm... OK Peter... but for now I have no issues at all with either soundstage, sibilance or comfort. Of course isolation could be better, but I knew that going into this.

Now, if down the road (like, say after they're broken-in) I find that I'd like to improve those things, I'll make an attempt to find the J$'s. But I tried before (for the D5000's) and Jeremy was a regular spook.

I have them on now, and they just are amazing. Best full-size cans I've put on my head in a long while. Haven't had the DT880's on in a while, but I don't remember really enjoying the tunes in the same way I am currently. I am hoping these only improve with break-in. I'm not finding music the least bit confined as other closed cans tend to be. They are sonorous and rich without being muffled or restrained.

I actually like the darker version better, they match the cups.  Imagine how well these would go with matched Darth Beyer cups.  Would truly be something special if you care about style.  The snow leopard would look sick on white colored cans, just to add a little color depth while matching it.

That could actually be the start of a new business, leather/velour animal designed(or even animal skin)  covers.  Replacement made to order headband covers with extra padding for extra plushy feel.

I might add some Markl Lawton cups, he has some new premium Luthier Tonewoods coming, they make high quality guitars out of them, great for sound acoustics. Now that I know how to make the velvet mod through trial and error, (cut many pieces up to finally get it right), I may purchase some 100% pure silk velvet.

I really wish I had my D7000s with me right now.  I'd love to so a straight shootout with the D7000, T1 and HD800 - when I EQ the HD800 for a tremendous sub bass response - Its sub bass remind me of the D7000 sub bass - I am guessing to say that the D7000 may not come of as controlled, but that is just a guess without direct comparison.  But when I did EQ the subbass down on the D7000 to match the low levels of other cans, it did come off remarkably tight - certainly in the upper leagues of headphone bass.

The midrange does have a bit of recession, but from memory - the D7000 always had excellent definition, or raw driver speed, throughout its treble and midrange.  Tonal preferences are purely subjective, so for those that enjoy this presentation...which includes myself - it was good to know that the competition does not have a significant advantage in raw speed - and this is reflected in the actual RRP of the D7000 - not it's street value - going by street value indicates enormous value in purely technical terms.  Whatever the result - the D7000 is not going to be embarrassed by the big boys, they've got much more to lose considering the price gap.

Would the D7000 be a significant upgrade from the Ultrasone Pro900 for use with electronic genres like DnB & dubstep?

I'm not actually unhappy with my Pro900, but you know how upgraditis is and the D7000 looks very nice! Obviously bass is very important and I have read one comparison on here that states the Pro900 has more quantity and slam in the bass while the D7000 goes deeper and is more focussed.

Has anybody else experienced both?
