Surprisingly saw 5200 awarded the gold medal from Japan Visual Grand Prix (VGP) 2021
under category: Sealed overhead headphones (50,000 yen or more and less than 75,000 yen)

the same category with award :

DENON AH-D7200 <----??? price drop make it the same range this year
JVC HA-SW02 <----since 2016
JVC HA-SW01 <----since 2016
NEUMANN NDH 20 <----the only planar
TAGO STUDIO TAKASAKI T3-01 <----getting explore more about it

some model up there is in the market few years ago but still gets a chance for this year's competition. R&D hardly develop new headphone :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Oooo that is neat. Nothing like your headphone getting the top award in it's bracket to help affirm your purchase lol. Yeah I was surprised to see the d7200 in that range.

I am interested in exploring some of those other cans that are in that list. As well as other sections.

I think he misspoke about the drivers being made by Fostex. The D5200/7200/9200 are made by Denon.

I regret selling mine. The tonality was fantastic, and the comfort, for me, was excellent.

Wow, no love for hifiman, except for the DEVA, on that list. Wonder how biased these rankings are. Interested seeing the Beyerdynamic t5 3rd gen at the top of its category. That phone is generally ignored or hated. I might grab a 5200.

7200 was the one discontinued, not 5200.

I forgot who said it but I thought D5200 was discontinued. Though now that I'm looking at Amazon Japan all 3 are still available.

Or was it only discontinued in North America?

Had no idea the 7200 was discontinued, definitely glad I picked one up when I did.

I'm in the US and was told directly by Denon's 2nd level support (not the usual call-center folks) that the 5200 had been discontinued. Can't comment on the 7200 as my issue was with a 5200.

Looks like it's back in stock on their website though, so maybe their plans changed or maybe they were just blowing me off.

My comment on 5200 and 7200 is just based on availability on Denon website, so your answer might be more accurate

LOL ah yes I think I read your RMA comment so that was it.

I suspect maybe they had bad sales in North America and decided to pull it off the shelf, but then somehow it got popular again and then they decide to keep it.

I hope they weren't just screwing with you lol.
