My post is a bit off topic so I shrink it into a "spoiler" so it won't take up space.
It's not really any spoiler lol.
Just a repair post.

If you blown your driver, and not have purchase the unit with receipt from an authorized seller, you are essentially screwed.
This happened to me with my first unit.
Ebay seller, to bad.
Denon will not help even to sell your a part.
Only full warranty coverage from authorized sellers.

So I had a broken unit stored in the closet for almost two years (!), until decided to try s a seller from chinese "Alibaba" site, for replacement drivers.
Fake 9200 drivers.
I bought the gold metal frame version.

Here is the install:
Need to remove white silicone glue around old driver, and push up from the grill side.

Then I used dynamat around new metal driver, for damping and a tight fit:

I re used the old metal grills.

Placed them in:

You can still see the gold edge of frame from the front side:

Initial testing to follow, actually sounds promising!

:)
Will compare to another 7200.

Edit forgot to update and say that yes they are a worthy driver and perform at level slightly above the 7200 , so they are a great replacement for repairs. Signature is between the 7200 & the 9200..

:)

I own the D5200, but that thread is........dead..... . . .
I know these differ from the D7200 but was wondering if anyone may be able to please offer some upgrade cable options that I can look into - I require 4.4mm, thanks

I gave the faulty D7200 some 100 hours burn-in but the boomy, loose bass and the distant recessed mids didn't change even a slightest bit. Both my old 7200 and my girlfriend's 7200 sounded glorious right from the beginning and they haven't changed their sound signature during years in service, so I assume it's indeed a bad batch or a major manufacturing defect. I already returned it and received a refund (I hope Amazon will send it to Denon for inspection rather than resell it as B-ware). Now thinking how to get a good specimen.

Have you received the replacements?
If so, how do they sound?

Has anyone upgraded from the D5200?
As an ex-D5200 owner what are the improvements you experienced?

I upgraded mostly because I could return my new 5200 and get a cheap 7200 from Amazon warehouse. 5200 is an excellent phone but I found 7200 to be a clear upgrade with regards to enjoyment, base and mid-range performance. 5200 is however more neutral and is slightly better in the treble region. 7200 is more luxurious but both are as comfortable. I dont understand all talk about uncomfortable headband of 7200 because I feel nothing of that. I use Saundra for vocal centric, jazz and classics but 7200 for all other genres including drama, impact, movies music. One minor factor why I switched to 7200 quickly after only owning 5200 for a month is what is said about its great modding and EQ potentials. For slam and drums, specially Japanese drums, 7200 is a dream.

Thank you for your reply.
I am happy with my D5200 but would like to take a step up. I'll keep an eye out for a decent price secondhand.

Thank you for sharing, I got some value from that.
I actually tried the D7200 a couple of years ago but as I had just bought some iems the D5200 was in my budget so I didn't listen for more than a minute so I didn't take anything away from the D5200. I only have a vague memory of perhaps a higher level of detail.
