How would you compare. The DH5200 thread is very inactive and i am super curious about these. I am hoping slightly brighter than 7200 to be honest.

There are people who prefer the D5200 over the D7200. Probably depends on musical preferences. I hear clear improvements from the D5200 to the D7200 (clarity, rich and organic tonality etc) and from the D7200 to the D9200 (clarity, more relaxed, more extended, more treble - perhaps a bit too much? but not for everyone?). Go to your nearest Denon dealer, they should have them on the display.

Ok so after a longer term living with the 7200, I can tell you it’s an unbelievably musical can. I’m driving it now with the Cavalli Liquid Platinum from Monoprice, and oh my !!!! Smoothness and then some !
Nothing seams peaky here. Maybe that’s the solution : tubes !!!!!

I tried the following cans today: Focal Elegia, AH-D7200, AH-D9200, and for a brief moment Final Sonorous VI. I crossed out the Sonorous immidiately because my head was too small for them, would've needed extra padding under the headband to get them to fit. But my impression after a few minutes of listening was that they are a bit like the Elegias but with slightly hotter treble, take this with a heap of salt though considering the short listening time.

The setup was a Denon CD-player --> Burson Conductor V2. Music mainly Dream Theater, Pink Floyd and Nightwish.

I went into this having the Elegias as my favorite, without having heard any of them, but that changed quickly. In my opinion the Elegias are slightly boring. The soundstage is wide for a closed can, but not quite at the level of an open one. The isolation of outside noise is bad, and since it tries so hard to sound like an open headphone I just don't get the point, why not just go for one of their open designs instead.

The D7200 and 9200 are both warm and intimate (small stoundstage), very musical and fun to listen to. After A/B:ing these for about half an hour, i found the 9200 to have a bit more finesse compared to the 7200. A bit more control in the mids (mid bass is tighter), and slightly more sparkle in the treble, might even get fatiguing on higher volumes. Considering the 9200 is almost double the price here i couldn't justify their cost, the 7200 is just too good. They are definitely not neutral nor very accurate sounding, but I was looking for a fun good sounding closed back headphone with descent isolation to enjoy music on, and the AH-D7200 fits the bill perfectly.

Hey can someone recommend adapter from 6,5mm to 3,5mm for D7200? I bought Hama 6,5mm to 3,5mm but if i dont plug in in specific way i need to twist it until the audio is clear. I guess something is wrong with that adapter or its quite low quality so im looking for something better, since using adapters should result in lost quality right?

Could someone share some recommendations with alternative ear pads I could try out for the D7200? I read that the ZMF Ori is a common one people use, I'm wondering how does it affect the sound? I like the sound overall though I'm looking for something that could possibly tame the high-mid/low-treble that can sometimes be too "sharp", it usually comes from some vocals. I would prefer a simple ear pad change with no modding involved. Any advice/recommendation would be great, thanks!

Anyone happen to have experience with the ZMF Universe Pads (both regular lambskin and perforated lambskin) with the D7200? Doesn't seem like a common combination here though seems more fitting than the ZMF Ori pads as well as other options. Would be great to get some insight, thanks!

You can read posts by me or even better zolkis in this thread. He covered pads for 7200 extensively. To quickly answer your question in Universe pads - they fit, but they change the sound signature a bit too much for my taste. I've tried Ori, Universe and hifiman pads on 7200 and still using stock pads. Stock pads are quite good.

I still want to try the 5200 pads on my 7200 as zolkis commented they are even better, but I haven't yet managed to get a pair.
