Denon AH-7200

OK. I have one on the way. I'm stoked! As mentioned earlier, I have a THX 789. I also have a Bottlehead Crack that I am using with my high impedance cans [T1.2 and 6XX]. I was considering getting a tube amp that could be used with low impedance and Planars. Do you think something like a CTH or an APPJ PA1502A would be a good pairing for the D7200? Other recommendations appreciated as well.

I've seen it mentioned that later productions of the 7200s were regarded as not having the midrange peak, etc. Does anyone know approximately when the better models were being produced and roughly what the serial numbers that coincided with this change are?

It's not a problem, it'll still stretch to fit to the circle shape. I still preferred the stock pads over them though, but they are nice pads for the money.

These came today and although the plastic circle does go in, these pads retain some of the original oval shape. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing yet but will be listening with them tonight. Aesthetically they are not as nice as the Dekoni pads but nice for the money I guess. The PU leather is one of the best I have seen. Will report back once I have spent some time with them...

The consensus is that is already a warm tiltex headphone. If you are interested I'm a tune amp go with a Darkvoice 336 SE and be sure to use a 6080 or 7236 power tube which can drive lower impedance cans. I have several 6080 tubes and they all perform well with no perceivable difference in sound. The GE ,Raytheon and RCA were all between $ 10 to $15 and the TungSol 7236 was $35.

I was pondering these Denin after not being thrilled with the Fostex Th-X00 but decidedtoutmove up the ladder and ordered a set of Focal Elear.

Yeah even though it fits, it definitely doesn't look aesthetically pleasing. Part of the reason I returned it and went back to stock.

My 7200s arrived today. I had only about 30 minutes to listen before I went to work.
Initial thoughts: These have really nice bass and are very smooth. I will listen more tonight, but my early impression is that these are the closed-backs I have been looking for. BTW, Thanks to HungryPanda for the advice!

The longer I have these the more I’m convinced the drivers in these are pushing some power, they are so smooth so detailed and musical. They are all I want in a closedback. They have to push at least what 1.5 t?
I measured their to have more than a Fostex TH900, but the main thing is the driver material which is superior.

Denon departure from traditional biocelulous was with this series cans.
There should be details about that on their site.
And here

The low end on these is really addictive. I listened to these side by side with my K812 and the detail is pretty much there really, just way more relaxed in the treble which is why I got these, to be my "fun, basshead" cans.

The K812 also have a 1.5 tesla magnet with a 53mm driver but they don't have the same visceral quality. They only seem more detailed due to the more 3D & airy soundstage with some Treble peaks which makes picking up detail easier but really the denons have similar resolution to my ears.

This is how I play them like 80-90% of the time, don't laugh if it looks 'silly'. Did not try any mods since they respond to EQ so well. I would do it for increased soundstage but I wouldnt trade any bass rumble/impact since this is why I got these.:L3000:
