DENAFRIPS Terminator: the King of R2R dac

Wondering about this, too ... I currently feed a PS Audio DirectStream DAC via I2S from a Matrix X-SPDIF 2. Thanks.

Hi,

DENAFRIPS i2s (LDVS, HDMI) is compatible with PSAudio.
In i2s mode, the 'Mode' button allow user to change the i2s configuration to match with the i2s source devices. There are total 8 modes to choose from, the sampling rate LED 1X, 2X, 4X serve as the indication of the configured mode.

For PSAudio, the LED 1x 2x 4x shall be all light on, i.e. '111'.

Details can be found in the manual.

Hope this clarifies.

Many thanks.

I will not use USB. I am planning on using the is2 digital out of a CD transport to the is2 digital input of the Terminator

Thanks for sharing your impressions of this fabulous combo. Are you thinking about trying the Terminator with a high-end audiophile PC too,i am very curious about its DSD and high-rate DSD performance.

I gather that the Terminator and the Jay's Audio sound better with CD than your Esoteric combo with SACD.

I recently purchased the Denafrips Terminator and like it very much , it Accually terminated a brand new PS Audio Direct Stream Dac senior with its current firmware ,
For those here that would like to test shear dynamics of thier system with the new Denafrips Dac my highest recommendation is a cd produced by Tonian Labs , Drums & Bells , I found nothing yet that compares to its hair raising realism , nothing on any percussion Hi-res DSD downloads , any SACD , or anything produced by Chesky , Aix Records and Sheffield Labs to name a few ,.check it out ,.Great job Denafrips

Thanks mainaman for your appreciation of my review:

For the foreseeable future I will not be trying DSD or streaming. For CDs the Jay's Audio CDT-3 & Terminator combo significantly outperform the Esoteric K-03x, and the Terminator outperforms the Esoteric's DAC using the Esoteric as a transport, and the CDT-3 outperforms the Esoteric's transport.

Good review and beautiful systems ,.The Jays Audio CDT3 looks very interesting however many ask who in thier right mind would use CDs any longer ,...
Well that’s OK with me those that have different opinions and preferences,
I have listened to DSD high rate streaming through a friends expensive computer audio base system which took some time getting use to listening with familiar music .
His Dac an Empirical Audio product was over twice the price of the DenafripsTerminator and with no cd sacd player I brought mine over . His Wilson Audio Alexandria speakers energized every cubic foot of air in his room and something very interesting to the both of us was discovered with a plain 44.1 16 bit cd by Tonian Labs , Drums & Bells .
He could not find a better sounding percussion recording anywhere in his collection of HI-Res downloads , many came close but not close enough to this more realistic percussion recording .

What is so special about this recording you ask and some reading this may roll thier eyes and smirk over a redundant sample rate , well it was very disturbing to my friend whom one time said to my face that I need to advance my audio system and dump my analog playback system and get rid my sacd player and discs .
