After carefully listening to the two firmware versions, I decided to keep version 3.0 on the Pontus II.
The detail and soundstage depth of this version won me over.
Is there another version we can download called 3.0? So far I thought there were only three: 1.0, 1.3, and 1.4.

Change of i2s-pin sign for "pontus".
As you can see in the picture, it was successfully connected with the "2x" led on.

CD used for checking.
track 2.channel check left, right and center
track 3.phase check

*If you use the hdml cable as it is, the left and right channels will be reversed.

Denafrips Hermes DDC & Terminator Plus DAC I2S Settings

1.Turn on the "mute button"
2.Turn on the "phase button"→When you press the phase button, the place where the LED shines changes.
3."2x" led on

You can easily set it while playing a CD at low volume.

Hi there,

I've been 5-6 days already with 1.4 and 1.0 back and forth trying and trying, I encourage everyone to try 1.4, I am really enjoying the extra detail, clarity and resolution offered by this version, tight and energetic bass without being too much, it keeps all the good things 1.0 offered and it doesn't give me the feeling 1.3 was giving like the Pontus turned into a delta sigma DAC

I'm loving 1.4 right now and I can go back to 1.0 anytime I want, f amazing.

I have news of a new Ares-12-1 with various updates. Perhaps (IMHO)Denafrips is making the wrong policy towards the consumer by proposing too many models and too many SW evolutions that are not always valid.(forever IMO). At this point happy not to have taken the T/+ 12. probably the whole line of dacs will be updated.

I've had FW 1.4 since it came out. At first it seemed quite OK. But now, I will rather go back to the original FW. It seems that on the new FW the hights are a bit brighter, and low ones are stronger. However, on the original FW I like the reverbs more. Someone wrote that he does not understand why change the good sound. I think the same. For me, in my system, the Pontus II on the new FW approaches sonically other DACs that sounds clear, detailed and detailed. That's not what I'm looking for in music. It would be primarily musical, not detailed. I'm going back to the original sound soon, the one that was at the beginning, because that's what I liked.

I agree with mikelas76.
I used fw 1.3 as soon as it was released, then I switched to fw 1.4, but for a few days I've been using fw 1.0 again, this seems to me the most beautiful to listen to.

After going back to v 1 for a month, I reflashed v 1.4. I missed the improved soundstage / separation

I'm curious about what was the FW version of choice for Pontus 12th users?

As far as I know (although I don't remember) the default firmware on the 12th is different from the original Pontus II, so once flashed it cannot be reproduced again. So for the 12th it's either back to Pontus II sound or into the 1.3/1.4, neither of which is what the 12th originally came with.

So what did you chose? I still haven't flashed mine. But then again I don't know if I would be able to tell the difference between II and 12th soundwise.

Same curiosity. Have P2/12 (end of April 2023) with factory SW 1.3. Vinshine, and Alvin, told me to try 1.4 and not to look back. I understand that it is true for P/2/12 and it is not recommended to go to version 1.0 of the old P2. But, maybe, I misunderstood. So, right now, the only choice is to switch to 1.4 which I haven't done yet, as 1.3 is pretty decent. (my impression in "Denafrips-FPGA Firmware Update 12TH Anniv. Forum- post 560, may 21 and, after another month and a half, my listening impressions have not changed. -imo)

It's possible that a next SW for the Pontus 12, comes out by September, also. Here too, Vinshine is not clear. What to say?
