I agree, its going to be important that we are all using the same release/recording of whatever tracks we do choose. In the case of Toccata that Sheldaze mentioned, we both had a copy of the song, but they sounded completely different as they were different recordings.

Exactly!
But this time I'd not planned to bring anything but an iPad running Tidal

"Mars" from Holst's The Planets as conducted by Yoel Levi (Telarc) is an excellent test track for those who appreciate orchestral music.

I don't have that particular version. Got a review for it or link?

That one looks quite interesting, but it's not what I see listed online. It was this one, which apparently is currently going for a penny:

That one they have - I've bookmarked!

The Mehta recording is nice but it has a lot of analog hiss. Dutoit is also quite good, but its shortfall is a rather condensed soundstage. The Levi/Telarc recording I mentioned is not only a fantastic performance, it is also a first-rate demonstration disc, and it's only standard redbook. The soundstage is expansive, the bass is tight and vibrant, and the transparency is second-to-none as far as recordings of this work go.

I'm happy to hear that. I'll pick it up when I get home this weekend. Well, try to anyway. Are you a Mahler or Brahms fan at all?

I absolutely am. :)

Any favorite recordings by them? I have a bunch I like for Brahms Requiem but I only really like Mahler's symphonies so I only have three recordings for those. A couple by Seiji Ozawa and another I forget, but its fantastic.

Mahler's Symphony No 4 by the Budapest Festival Orchestra is quite good.
