Wow. looks like it is not just PEQ. It's a much sophisticated DSP. Is there a user manual to explain how to use it?Hello! I think it's pretty good. I used to use APO/AQUA. I feel the FiiO EQ DSP more precise, less edgy compared to APO. And yes, the DSP does not lower the volume when applied. Tested with PCM 44-192 Hz and DSD64.

Solved. Close DSP app and turn off EQ on device before update.

@FiiO I got stuck in the MCU as well. Put the bin file in as instructed. But it didn't update automatically like the instruction says. The instruction also says "pop up". Does it mean "eject" the disk?@FiiO

What are the sound qualities/signature of class AB amplification in K17? Is much worse/different compared to pure class A amplification?

So for anyone doing this upgrade and getting stuck with the MCU update - I believe you need to use a Windows PC/Laptop. I followed the process using my MacBook Pro and everything appeared to work, u-disk appears in Finder drag over the .BIN file and then eject the disk but that did not trigger anything on the K17. After a few attempts via the MacBook Pro, I switched to my Windows Laptop and followed the procedure again and it worked immediately. So I would guess the K17 is waiting for some windows specific low level USB 'eject' command over the cable that it does not get from a MacBook.

Same issue. Downloaded MCU firmware. Plugged K17 into PC. Folder opened. Dragged MCU firmaware to folder (root). Ejected. Folder closed. Firmware upgrading. Stuck in upgrading and got the Time out message.
Restarted K17. Plugged into PC - no new device detected. Even under My Computer, no new device shows up. Reset all (under Settings). Reset using pin hole at the back. Unplugged from power and plug it back in. Plugged K17 again to PC - nothing. K17 not detected at all. Restarted PC. Tried a diffent USB port - nothing. Double checked Disk Management/Device Manager - nothing. No new disk/USB device shows up.
What's next @FiiO ?

Issue resolved. I left the unit unplugged overnight and tried again this morning. Was able to update MCU now.

I just upgraded both without any issues.
The new main controller firmware V140 and MCU firmware V80 for K17 are now available!

Wifi password with special character still doesn't work. Additional info. Current network encryption is on WPA2/WPA3 Personal. I switched to pure WPA2 Personal (while using the same password with special character) just to try if the K17 will connect, no good - still won't connect.
BT pairing mode (straight out of a Reset All) - still doesn't go to pairing mode! K17 at one point was stuck on PO+PRE and UH Even after multiple Reset All - still stuck at PO+PRE and UH. This is when I also noticed that BT pairing mode doesn't work.
I had to turn off the unit using the AC power switch. This is the only time the unit was back to normal operation (I'm on PO and M)

I also had the Mac issue but just used Windows via Parallels to move the file and eject. It did not like the file that the Mac tried to add to the disk and had to delete that one and add again via Windows (Parallels).
Also, the VU meters are still a little "choppy" even after this update - hopefully this can be made more response in a future update:

To be honest I couldn't tell them apart as just a balanced DAC into the Zahl HM-1. And I did do A/B comparison with volume match ( The Zahl is has a feature just for that for that
As amp I'd assume the X9 would wipe the floor with the K7, but it is already boxed up. And I can't really do a volume matched A/B.
