I have the 600 Ohm version of the DT 990's and have paired it with a "Matrix M - Stage" amplifier and use a Dragonfly USB DAC.

Maybe look into the Matrix M Stage amps? They've upgraded their equipment substantially from the original version when I bought it back in the day.
