I currently am using the HD 25's as my go to headphones but i'm just not liking them as much as I thought. I'm debating on whether reselling them and getting new ones or just staying with these. I want headphones I can be on the go with, with not such a long cord but still great audio quality for metal/hip-hop (I know, two different sides of a spectrum) but still. Any suggestions? (I'd also like to be able to use them with my synth.)
I'd prefer on ear headphones since they seem more convenient and have less sound leakage but I'm open to anything.
(Beyerdynamic 1350's look pretty good)
Budget: Below $300

On a side note, can anybody tell me what headphones the guy doing main vocals in this band is wearing?

There are the headphones he is using. http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-770-PRO-250-ohms/dp/B0006NL5SM/ref=sr_1_59?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354853275&sr=1-59&keywords=headphones They are actually very good from what I hear.

The AKG K167 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=855176&Q=&is=REG&A=details are going to be your best bet. Tons of bass, and a pretty high sensitivity. They are too new for me to have hands on experience, but a lot of people are jumping up and down about how good they are. With the specs these things boast, I am not going to question them either.

Do you think I'd be better off with either of those two then the ones I have now? I listen to pretty heavy metal I suppose and a sprinkle of rap (kid cudi and kendrick lamar are notable ones.)

if these are what you are talking about http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106267&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-NA-_-NA then it is a big yes. The impedance on those headphones is 60 ohms. The Impedance on the K167s would be 32 ohms.

In basic terms, the more impedance the headphone has, the more power it takes to drive them. Stuff like smart phones and moblie music players generally have an impedance of 16 ohms. What that means is that your headphones probably aren't sounding as good as they should be, and they are a lot quieter than they should be as well (provided you aren't using a mobile amp). The K167 is going to have a similar issue, but not nearly as bad. That alone is the answer you need to justify a new pair of headphones.

Now, on the flip side you could buy a portable amp which is a heck of lot cheaper. http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E11-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B0053KWDES/ref=pd_cp_e_2 . Something like this would improve any mobile listening experience by a heck of a lot. I would personally get this and the K167 because the k167 is still going to be better, but if you spend 50 bucks, you might be completely happy with what you have now.
