Crowd Design for iFi App!
Feb 24, 2024 at 11:08 PM Post #107 of 120
It's been 3/4 of a year since the Go Pods came out. How far along is the app development? Not even in a beta yet? Not even a teasing of features.

Wait, have you even started yet or even hired anyone who designs apps? Was this all just gaslighting? Is this as real as AptX HD was when announced with the Go Pods?

Let's get an update iFi!

@iFi audio I agree with the post, above. Is there any update?

Can I open a ticket at iFi Support and ask or is there another place at iFi Audio, where I could ask a question about this App and get an official answer?

I have already given the update I have in a previous post, my apologies but I am not involved in the day-to-day of this feature, the best I can do is ask and see if I get a response regarding where they are.

No gaslighting, we started a thread asking for folks' thoughts on ideas for an app, no more no less. Those ideas could be implemented or rejected, that is also not my department, but I will pass along your thoughts, as always.

As I posted previously I have no update to announce, you can certainly submit a ticket to see if the tech folks have any more answers than I do.

This was a new venture on our part, and in the beginning we did not promise any timeframes for an app, we simply wanted ideas on what folks thought would be good for its functionality, when and where this happens is out of my hands, however, I do apologize to anyone who thought an app was imminent, this was a beginning foray into what our customers wanted to see. I am sure if this was the only thing iFi was developing it may be here quicker, that is also not the case.

Cheers!!

well apparently if they have no update about anything at all, they haven't started anything, this whole thread was just gaslighting. good to know.

I am sorry you feel that way, probably nothing I can say to change your mind.

iFi Audio is not in the habit of announcing anything, in fact, usually, product announcements coincide with launch day and are posted the same day the product launches. I have seen products in development for well over a year that still don't have a firm launch date even a year later.

I will quote the very first sentence of the thread...

"Here at iFI we're looking into designing our own bespoke app for use with our products." Key words being "looking into".

So again I apologize to anyone who had thought we were going to have a new app out in short order, again this was not the intention of this thread.

Cheers!!

The app itself doesn't exist at all. There's an app for updating the firmware on iOS and Android, but their is no controller app at all. I bought this product fully knowing there was no app, but it is disappointing that nothing has come up. I'm not holding my breath, but they do sound good and work better than most of the bluetooth adapters I have used.

I understand you gave yourself an out by not actually promising an app. But to consumers this look like a direct outreach, I bet you most people felt you were just being cautious by not promising 100% delivery.

So I think a lot of people took this as a really earnest effort to bring out an app. So that was a lot of gaslighting.

I'm the one that called it that you were going to do nothing and people thought I was mean.

But here we are and you have no intentions of an app because it's been 9 months and you haven't even started a damn thing. You're too busy designing new products rather than do some fundamentals on the ones that exist.

I mean good luck with your business model I hope it keeps getting exposed.

Yes I know about Gaia. That's not what we're talking about. Maybe try to reread?

The GAIA App is not available on Google Play Store, so us Android users have to install the APK from the iFi Download Hub to manually update GAIA, and then manually update any new Firmware, as well.

Now, personally, I do not have an issue with that but in the GO Pod thread, I've read of at least one person who failed to update, resulting in bricking their GO Pod because only one Pod got updated.

Personally, I do not use EQ, PEQ or any other features but I completely understand and respect the people who request these. What I am talking about is some essential features, like GAIA to become available in the Play Store, OTA firmware updates and also case battery level would be nice, too!

Always referring to the GO Pod, as it's the only iFi product I own.

I've opened a ticket today, inquiring about all these. I encourage anyone interested to do the same. I'll post here, whenever I'll receive an official response.

That sounds like a fair set of expectations, and a constructive way to ask for those things. Unlike some other commenters on this thread who come across as petulant children.

Once again in the first post, this was stated as an inquiry and contains this quote ... "This would replace the GIAA app that users need to use at present."

I again give my apologies that there is no new news regarding the app, but no timeframe was given, and iFi does not release "speculative info" anyway when we know we release the information.

I am glad to answer you at any time but at this point, I have said all I am going to in regards to your posts about this subject as it is not serving anyone here in a positive manner.

Cheers!!

Everyone can want all that they want. But when they start being rude because they are disappointed, that speaks volumes about them.

This is a lot different.

iFi did word the post technically correct in that they never guaranteed an app. But come on, they made it sound like they were all excited about it, it was going to be crowd designed! you know they were getting ideas but it was so enthusiastic, no exact timeline yet, but really made it feel like it was so seriously considered and sounded inevitable. But come on, they clearly engaged the community with a lot of hope purposely, as not having an app was one of the top complaints, and that wasn't a good look. So they wanted to make people feel better. But clearly, after 9 months of no movement on an app since release, we all know it was just gaslighting. They have zero update at all - aka - haven't bothered to do anything except make this post. Considering almost every other TWS item has some sort of app, besides the susvara and probably some low end devices, we know this is not rocket science. It's not like they promised a whole new invention and we could cut them slack now.

They were enthusiastically endorsing an app as in the works, though no timeline yet, an app is something done many times before, but left a technical out with their verbiage to never make it or have to make much, if any, of an effort. They never lifted a finger is my guess, or very little of one. As we can see, there is no secret app program going on. If there was one, there would have been an update here ON THEIR SOCIAL ACCOUNT.

I did see a post of iFi asking what products should they make next! So we know they have money AND time AND resources to invest in making new products, but as we see here, don't care too much about supporting the older ones, even the ones they pretended to the consumers they were going to do this great thing for (with a small asterisk)

So if you feel companies can mislead people via using a carefully worded sentence given them an out is ok, gaslighting their consumers, well, that speaks a whole big volume about yourself

That sounds like a fair set of expectations, and a constructive way to ask for those things. Unlike some other commenters on this thread who come across as petulant children.

As we can see here, you just sound like a corporate drone, giving companies the go ahead to gaslight their consumers and treat them poorly and saying they are mostly beyond any real honest reproach, just criticisms that must sound nice and really just gloss over the reality of things at the end of the day. You're a shill for corporate misbehavior, and you aren't even getting paid for it. Bigly sad.

So, yesterday, I've placed the following question on iFi Support:

Hello,

I was wondering if iFi Audio is planning an update to the GAIA App for Android Users. Last time I’ve checked, today that was, GAIA App for the GO Pod is not available on the Google Play Store. So, us Android users, have to manually install the APK and then manually install any new Firmware.

Are you planning to make the GAIA App available on Google Play Store? If so, when?

Are you planning to offer any new features, like GO Pod case battery indicator and/or OTA Firmware update via the GAIA App?
If so, when?

Finally, are you planning to realise any new App for all of your devices, including the GO Pod?

I am asking because I’ve read a thread on Head-Fi where, in April 2023, you started asking opinions and ideas about a new App. Well, almost one year has passed. Are there any updates?

https://www.head-fi.org/threads/crowd-design-for-ifi-app.967869/

Is there a estimated time of delivery for this new App or for an update to the GAIA App or for a new Firmware for the GO Pod?

Looking forward to your reply!

Best regards,
Nick

Today, I've received the following reply:

Hi Nick,

Thank you for logging a support ticket,

As you mentioned the Android version of the Gaia app is available via the Download Hub on our website. Unfortunately we currently have no update on whether the Gaia app will be available via the Google Play Store in the future.

The Gaia app already has Over the Air update functionality via Bluetooth. I can’t speak to the addition of a charging case battery indicator, however I do feel this would be hard to implement, as the GO-Pod charging case itself does not have Bluetooth connectivity.

In regards to a new app, our software development team are working on applications for use with future products.

Kind Regards,

Liam M
