I started this thread http://www.head-fi.org/t/680126/new-creative-headphones earlier in the portable forum because I thought they were meant to be for portable use

I'm really hoping that the CAL!2 is not a Denon D1001 variation.  They look awfully similar...

In terms of color matching, indeed they do look alike! But in terms of design shape, the CAL!2 looks a little bit more futuristic!

According to the website, the CAL!2 have tighter bass and are more grown towards accuracy...

Why's that? The Denon AHD 1000/1 were the best under $150 out there at the time. Sounding better then the M50s and the like.
And no the CAL does not sound like the Denon. Even tho the are basically the same can. The Denon is cleaner sounding from top to bottom. My thoughts is it has to do with the Denon cups being a little deeper and a better cable. Side by Side the Denon is better.
No question about it.

1st com, Denon AHD 1001, Cal, Denon HP700

But back to the new Creatives, If you do some research it seems they are using a 40mm Bio Cell Driver, Which all the recent Denon products use 50mm drivers. And the ONLY 40mm Bio-Cell I know of comes in the 1000/1 and Cal. So, we'll have to wait.
I'll take a rehash of the 40mm driver, It is/was a fantastic driver.

A Re-branded Denon D2000 would be awesome.

Yes it would, but like I said the D2000/5000/7000 uses 50mm drivers the upcoming Cal2 40mm, so we'll have to wait.

The gold and platinium version feature a 50mm driver xD but both have active functions

I'm a bit skeptical about this.

That's true. I hope they come with a new version of the Fostex drivers.

The aurvana platinum are quite expensive  ($429 AUD) so maybe they do come with the denon/fostex drivers? im not sure if the active sound stuff would impact the viability of using these drivers or not though..

That's because the wireless and ANC technology combined with a somewhat larger driver

Being a CAL! lover, I am curious about the upcoming Live! 2.
They are not that affordable like the first ones with "permanent discount" (50+5€ in Italy), but they look good. =)
(Even the first ones were beautiful... <3)
