This was sold for $60 on Amazon like a week ago. Grabbed one as a gift.

To the hater, the IEM forum next door. :)

These are one of the best headphones I've heard (properly moded and properly amped), right next to the Denon D2000's.

These are indeed the same drivers. Not just in size - Creative bought the rights to the OEM after the Denons were discontinued (in favor of an inferior model, mind you).

In other news, yes the Creative IEMs are horrible. Just God awful. But that's not what these are. These are worth it at more than double the price. Excellent headphones, with the only downside being the short cord.

EDIT: And of course, this is a thread and deal from four years ago. But ya know.

Not the same drivers as the D2000's, but the D1001's ; )

BTW, they beat the HD598's hands down IMO, since bass to treble. They have one of the most realistic highs I've heard. Cymbals are absolutely real, with perfect extension and decay. Just a shame they don't have a bit more (and better) bass. Bass distorts if you push it too much (unlike the DENON HP700) and the definition/texture leaves much to be desired compared to the HP700 bass. But the CALs treble is even better than the HP700, which is quite an achievement. These are the perfect budget headphones for jazz. I would avoid Lounge, Trance, etc.

Boy, was I wrong!

The potential was there. Have just discovered a simple mod that turns them in BASS-MONSTERS!!! So best of both worlds: detail-monsters and bass monsters

I'd defintley wouldn't want anymore serious bass oomph outta these, it was almost spot on for me in quantity. It certainly could use some tightening but extention and defintion are superb for the price.

Bass definition is their only weakness. But it has improved a bit with the mod. Bass is tighter now. This mod consists in opening 3 holes in the fabric around the driver. There are 2, but they're too small, need to be streched with a larger screwer and open 1 more. I will post pic soon for the ones interested in this.

Concerning the Marantz, it has nothing to do with this thread

not the first time I've heard opening holes improve base but usually tends to be something you have to take apart to gain access to the driver.  I tend that for my HD 428 uncovered the 3 bass ports on the back and it improved the bass.

Man, what an improvement! The access to the driver is very easy in this case. I will show you soon. It's not only the quantity, it's also the QUALITY. Now the bass has good definition and its tight, when it was uncontrolled and boomy (frankly bad). Thats why I had to do something. And how well it worked! You also have to place some blue tak inside the cups. I used the ones from the HD598's, if you know what I mean.

The soundstage also gets wider with this mod (it moves more air). Pretty speaker-like now. Excelent. This reveals how good the imaging and stereo division are in these cans. But these phones are all about the treble and micro-detail. It's absolutely fantastic.

These are one of the most revealing/detailed phones I've heard. Along with the exceptionaly realistic treble, they have very very good micro-detail, above average instrument separation, as well as pretty close to "thunderous" bass after the mod. I can't recommend these enough.

How are they unamped? How are they for rap/hiphop? How is the clarity? How are the vocals? How is the instrument separation? Also do they fit completely around my ears? (I have small ears).
