Well, if you do not use EQing, Cowons are not a good choice. I think that my S9 sounds very good with EQ on, but without any EQ it sounds very flat to my ears. Cowon has got one of the best EQ onthe market, but they do not seem to be able to get their DAP:s to sound good when they are not using EQ.

yeah..becuase their frequency response is not so flat.  but i still prefer to listen without EQ,it sounds nice but not like the clip+ which got a very linear frequency response.
I tried using the EQ with the D2 trying to make it sound like a clip+ ..I actually suceeded and the sound signature was very similar, but it was a little muddy.  thus i prefer without EQ,sound is more natural to my ears, cleaner.
why can't they make a flat frequency response with their players?  i am going nuts over this!

Sorry, I meant "flat" as a synonym to "lifeless", not as a technical term for frequency response.

EDIT: re-read and saw that I read too fast and misunderstood what you meant, which makes this post unnecessary...

So as to make this post a bit more relevant, I would like to say that while the BBE+ of my S9 is very nice, it does bring a slightly artificial/digital sounding veil over the music that the EQ of my other DAP:s does not bring. Mainly vocals are affected by this.
