Compact Portable DAC and Amplifier FiiO&Jade Audio KA1 Is Officially Released!

The KA3 has separate amplifier stage and is way more powerful, it will certainly draw more power than the Apple dongle.
That’s for sure, but it’s sucking so much power that my phone is empty in 5 hours. On an older or smaller capacity iPhone it would be drained in 4 or maybe 3 hours. You wouldn’t get trough a longer train ride with that…

Yes this is true, not suitable for longer listening sessions.
Maybe the KA1 will draw less power.
I can see that the trend is for more powerful dongles with increased power consumption.
Same as the KA3 is the RU-6.

There are two things that really bug me with my KA3. It drains my battery at about 5 times the rate of the apple dongle dac. The Apple dongle consumes 4% in one hour, while the KA3 drains 19% in my testing at the same volume. You can feel the KA3 getting relatively warm. For mobile purposes that’s not very ideal.

Under certain conditions the KA3 also picks up interferences from my iPhone 13 resulting in that beepbeebebeep sound that we all know from old crappy speakers.

Other than those issues, wich are not minor, the KA3 delivers exceptionally detailed and powerful sound.
Does anyone know how battery consumption compares with dragonfly black?

I understand when the battery consumption is high when I have high gain high impedance and drive my 58X it needs so much more power and in that situation I am home and that is fine.

But the other time it drew so much power with low gain low impedance driving blon 03 at work playing low bit internet radio with dynamic policy on. And in this case KA03 was very warm which makes me believe software is buggy.

Ideal will be to have an option for home to eat as much battery it needs but also an economy mode for work or travel.

Samsung dongle is also good.

I forgot where I read but someone did a comparison chart with popular dongle dac power consumption. And all the Dragonfly all have lowest power draw due to their Gordan Rankin chip which is said to be super efficient. The opposite end is Centrance DACPort HD with highest draw and highest power output lol.

Only thing that has lower power draw is Apple Dongle, but it also has lower power output.

Otherwise Dragonfly Black is lowest follow by Dragonfly Red/Cobalt (same power, but both output more power than Black) then follow by everything else.

I use Dragonfly Red plugged into my computer permanently (it's on all day) and it's always cold to the touch.

Yes, the power consumption of KA1 is much lower than the KA3.

The KA1 does not support APP control in mobile phone currently.
But you could adjust the volume for KA1 via the FiiO control panel or the volume panel in the Windows computer when using it as USB DAC for Win10/11.

Is the KA1 suitable for playing Apple Lossless Music (ALAC) in Apple Music on my Google Pixel 6 Pro? ALAC goes up to 192khz/24bit and KA1 supports up to 348khz/32bit, and Apple says a wired connection is required for listening to their lossless music library:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212183

Is KA1 enough or should I look for the BTR5 2021 and use a wired connection (USB-C to USB-C)?

I have a brand new pair of Fiio FD1 headphones by the way.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Yes. But if you would like to get higher output power, Bluetooth support, balanced output, you could consider the BTR5 2021.
