West Coast EVE20 Kit received from @Tybot
Won’t give much listening time if any until tomorrow, looking forward to hearing it!

The missing screen was noted earlier. Shouldn't affect the sound.I received the east coast tour kit from @Blueshound24 . The Elysium right has a missing filter. There was only one set of white tips included. Everything seems to be in working order.
I was unable to locate a review thread for the VE8. I know I was pretty rough on the Elysium but I must say I enjoyed the VE8 a whole lot more even if I do think it is overpriced. Here is my full review.
Vision Ears VE8 - Review
A BIG thank you to head-fi and Vision ears for inviting me to join the gear tour. This is an opportunity to review gear that I wouldn’t have been able to obtain financially or hear at local shops. So it is an honor to hear another high profile IEM. Here is my attempt at a review:
This will be a short and to the point review. To be brutally honest and blunt; I am disappointed with the VE8 BUT not as much as I am with the Elysium.
I was disappointed that the tour kit only came with a metal carry case, the VE8 and a cable. I was hoping to get to experience the awesome packaging. I was also a little annoyed that no tips were included. I am a firm believer that manufacturers pick tips specifically that they believe make the product sound the way they intended when they designed it; sadly without the manufacture tips there is no way of knowing the intended sound signature. Getting back to the metal carry case, it is very well made, feels great in the hand and it will offer much more protection than the Elysium’s leather case. The metal case does say quality when looking and holding it. The cable on the other hand is a laughing stock. I am not sure if the cable that is provided is the stock cable or not but if it is Vision Ears should be ashamed. The cable that I was provided is identical to the horrid cable that came with my Massdrop Noble X Universal cable and it absolutely does not deserve to be on a headphone of $2,700 price tag. I hope that this was sent in error but I am unable to confirm that.
The VE8 design and look were also a disappointment. To me they look cheap for a $2,700 IEM. I get the same quality feel of materials from my ADV M5-1D which retails for $400. The Meze Rai Solo $250 absolutely destroys the VE8 on material quality and feels way more premium. Too me the VE8 feels like a moderately priced chifi IEM, a major disappointment. The design is a universal fit and is fairly comfortable. Thankfully It isn’t like the flat, stone design of the Elysium that allowed tips to slip out of ears very easily. The nozzle and bore make it easy for tips to stay in place; I didn’t lose any tips inside my ear canal during my review time, unlike the Elysium. In my opinion, the design and materials of the VE8 just don’t cut it for an IEM of this price point BUT it is 100x better then the more expensive Elysium.
Okay so the design, material and fit are lackluster, how is the sound. Surely the sound should impress considering the price point. First let's take a look at the technology and specs of the Vision Ears VE8, see link below for more information from VE.
https://vision-ears.de/produkt/ve-8
- Tech: Three-way-system with eight BA drivers
- Drivers: 2 BAs for bass – 2 BAs for mids – 4 BAs for highs
- Sensitivity: 120dB SPL at 1 mW
- Impedance: 22 Ohms at 1 kHz
Um yeah, the sound also sorta disappointed me BUT not like the Elysium. To me it just screams overpriced.
Here are my quick thoughts on the sound.
Bass: The VE8 is punchy and fun along with being full of details. The extension of the VE8 is good with plenty of presence and detail retrieval. I was alway content with the bass quantity and quality of the VE8. Everyone once in a while the bass would get a little confused on busier tracks. I completely changed my mind from first impressions the more I listened to the VE8.
Comparison: The Elysium is bass light, has decent extension with adequate presence and detail retrieval. I was always searching for a bit more impact and more body, the Elysium just lacked bass authority. Bass can get a little confused on busier tracks but that is not as prominent as thought on first impressions.
Mids: The VE8 mids are lush and romantic. Vocals have nice tonality and sound natural. Instruments have a crispness to them and a natural presentation. The mids are balanced and cohesive. The only complaint that I have is that the upper mids can be a little bit more assertive on some tracks and can bring along some harshness on random moments but those are few and far between. Again I completely changed my mind from first impressions the more I listened to the VE8.
Comparison: The Elysium mids have nice vocal presence and are the highlight of the mix. The tones that they portray are engaging and pleasant for the most part. The upper mids are at times too far forward and can sound somewhat hot. But for the most part the tonality and timbre of the mids are pleasing. Very much so the best part of the sound.
Treble: VE8 treble is mostly smooth and well extended. On some tracks, like the mids, the treble can be a little bit more assertive and can display some harshness at random moments but those are few and far between. The treble of the VE8 has nice air and presence. Details are presented effortlessly and are very pleasing. Again I completely changed my mind from first impressions the more I listened to the VE8.
Comparison: Elysium has a weird treble for me. The lower treble can be hot and too far forward. Details are presented in a somewhat aggressive way at times. The higher treble lacks air and can sound muffled. There is some harshness that appears randomly but not as prominent as I thought on first impressions.
Soundstage and Imaging: The soundstage of the VE8 is deep and wide and has fantastic separation and isolation of instruments. It is very easy to interpret the layout of the stage with the VE8. I really enjoyed watching movies with the VE8; it was a very engaging and immersive experience.
Comparison: Soundstage is average width but excels in depth and layering. The Elysium does a good job in separating and isolating out instruments and vocals. It is easy to dissect a soundstage with the Elysium.
Overall the VE8 is a pleasant sounding IEM that I enjoyed way more than the Elysium; I still believe they are overpriced. I don’t see any benefit in getting the VE8 when I can get a ADV M5-1D for $400 or Meze Rai Solo for $250. I just don’t get a sense of value with the Vision Ears VE8, to me they sound like a higher mid-level IEM at a high-level price tag. If the VE8 was priced at $1,000 I would be more accepting of them.
I think you’re kind of missing the point of a loaner tour when you give an overview of the packaging and tip selection. Also, would you be able to reveal what sources you were using for the comparison and what exposure you have had to other totl offerings?

I totally understand the reason to buy something no matter the price if you think it is the best you've heard and your willing and able to pay the price. As long as you and your ears are happy with the purchase is all that matters in the end.The luxury market doesn’t provide a guarantee that price increases incrementally with incremental increases in quality.
In reality, price nearly always increases exponentially with incremental increases in quality.
An opinion is fine, and whether or not something is worth 6x more is also just an opinion.
it doesn’t matter if something is justifiably “worth 10x more” or justifiably “sounds 10x better.”
I bought the erlky because it’s the best iem I’ve ever heard.
