Closed headphone that has Hd600's quality?

You may be right. I might just have to give up and invest in a pair of Etymotics...

Some differences in their construction:

A100Ti

Sensitivity: 100db/mW
OFC6N bobbin winding voice coil
Housing: Titanium
Cord (sheath / material / length): PVC/PCOCC/ 3.0m
Weight: Approximately 340g

W100

Impedance: 48 Ohms
Sensitivity: 100db/mW
OFC8N bobbin winding voice
Housing: Wooden Hokkaido Cherry Tree
Cord: sheath of 100% silk, PCOCC 3.0m
Magnesium frame adoption lightweight 320g

A9X

Impedance: 32 Ohms
Sensitivity: 103dB/mW
CCAW Voice coil(copper cladded aluminum wire)

Hmmm.....what suprises me is the fact that there are no Beyer, Senn, or AKG supporters here.
Audio Technica? Besides the KING R10s, the best that mere mortals can afford?

You guys completely confuse the people who pose the original questions. I think the original question was which closed can headphone has the same or similar sound quality to HD-600. Everyone here has gone off on a tangent with regard to which is a better headphone. I don't think that the original poster is necessarily interested in that. Obviously he/she has HD-600s and likes them. Therefore, it's really irrelevant if headphones X have a better sound than headphones Y. Just tell him/her which closed cans have sound qualities similar to HD-600's. I bet the poor schmoe is going out of his mind reading all these threads.

Too true Bifcake, well said...

I think some people are also forgetting amps, being unforgiving with one 'phone, and completely amazing with another...

So, very controversially... I vote for a (presumably secondhand now) pair of Sony CD1700s with a META42...

That duo compared to my Senn HD580 / X-Can V2 is slightly brighter, slightly more closed in - in terms of soundstage (though not as much as I would have anticipated) but it IS thoroughly listenable... Sceptics might mention that the CD1700s are renowned for their warmth... but the META42 cools them down

It could just be the META doing all the things it does well... so be it, but... it also makes the (apparently) syrupy CD1700s somewhat looser

Well, to bring things to a close. . . .

I'd still recommend the Ety4s, but you may not find them comfortable. Another pair that I would suggest is the JVC HA-DX3. They'll give you everything you're looking for, and more. They're balanced all around, go relatively deep, and are comfortable and easy to drive.

Guyferd, noting your interest in bass extension. I can suggest two headphones that surpass the bass of the HD-600 in every way. The Sony CD-3000 goes deeper than any other headphone, and can have tremendous bass impact. The bass of the A100Ti is very tight and deep, and also has a lot of impact. Either of these headphones can outperform the HD-600 at the low end. The Sony is more comfortable to me, but the A100Ti isn't bad.

Either of these headphones is comparable in quality to the HD-600, and each has areas in which it will be better than the HD-600. As others have said, much is amp dependent. A lot of what you hear from headphones is matching the right headphone to the right amplifier. Do that, and even a modest system can sound great. And even high-end systems will underwhelm if the components don't work well together.

Well, part of it stems from the fact that people recommend headphones that don't answer the original request, then other people say "those might be good, but they don't fit his requirements." That's a perfectly legitimate discussion, and very on-topic.

The other thing to point out is that several good recommendations have been made; but if they're not controversial, nothing much gets said beyond that. In my first reply in this thread I recommended the Beyer DT250-80, which are clearly closer to the HD 600 than any of the other headphones mentioned here. A number of people have also mentioned the ER-4P which, while being a bit more neutral, have a lot in common with a pair of well-amped HD 600.

Hmm... off the top of my head, I'd reccommend Etys. They Rock.

Also, by the sound of it, the titanium AT might work for you...

Oh, and Magicthyse, have you ever tried AKG K1000s? You're going to end up wearing those; the heaphone gods have a strong sense of irony.

They DT-770 sound nothing like the HD600. They tend be far more aggresive and deliver more energies. Good cans for pops + rock. However, lack the resolution and mid-range as found in HD600s or HD580s.

Not sure where you got that idea about the driver. I think it has more in common with the ATH-AD10 and the W2002 than the W100. More info here.

My impression of the DT770 from reviews has been that it's an aggressive, but dark headphone that, like you said, really doesn't sound like the HD 600.
