Made out like a bandit at a goodwill that had just opened back up, found a couple of deutsche grammophons, a teldec, 3 philips, 2 cbs, a telarc, an emi and a London silver. All in great shape other than cases, most i have heard but have not owned, very happy.
Just found out Julian Bream has passed away, and the world just became a more dreary place for it.
Very nice 7th by Haitink, thank you Quint.
Here's the 8th with the conductor that really does it -- for me -- with the Viennas in St Florian's
I'm not a big HvK fan, but he rocks Bruckner.
A pity. His Mozart rocks -- not prettified like so many others. He cuts out the repeats, but otherwise, it's foot stompin' musik.
Of course, his Schumann #3, Beethoven '62 (and '76), and Tchaikovsky are excellent.
Bruckner #7 and 8 with the Vienna, his last recordings, are pure golden.
Not to forget the operas he did -- La Boheme, Aida, Parsifal, Madama Butterfly, Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg, and Der Rosenkavalier, to only list from my memory. Talk about musical diversity! Ach Himmel.
The man knew those scores inside out.
cheers
And how's your pressing? After the power came back on yesterday I spun this up:
(Yep, 10 dollars used 30+ years ago). Crazy beautiful, and sounds great too.
