Classical music discussion, what do you like?

One of my favorites, you have any thoughts on who this compares to other string quartets? I read this book recently, written by the first violinist of Takacs Quartet, very interesting and entertaining

Perhaps the Quartetto de Cremona. Members of the QI coached them, so there's some obvious influence, but the QdC is a bit more aggressive and less refined. I have that book on my Amazon Want List! I heard the Takacs Qt play Op.59 No.1 and Op.130/133 last weekend: they were sublime!

I'll check them out, thanks!

Plus, he played Liszt's "Orage" as an encore that night!

I'm making my way through the recently released box set of the full Takacs cycle, following along (kind of) with the sheet music.  I am very impressed.

Hamelin and Andsnes together were fantastic at the Wigmore Hall.

Next concert is at Carnegie, definitely worth going.

Albéniz Asturias - Esteban Sánchez

Interesting !!! But.....

It still works much better as a Guitar piece (Regardless of which instrument it was written for; As does much of Albeniz's music, excluding his Orchestral works of course)

The chords don't add as much expressiveness as they do when played on the Guitar (Before someone decides to act silly on me, I'll admit this is just my Subjective Opinion)

I agree. He was trying to imitate the guitar with that and other pieces. The repeated pedal tones work much better and sound more idiomatic on the guitar to my ears.

Reicken complete Keyboard works 24/88.2KHz

How good is this album, would you recommend it as the go to for Reicken? Reciken doesn't seem to get much love but he is a genius. I have her bohm and buxtehude which I found quite good but not amazing.
