I meant I´d have to cut a whole new pad from a piece of foam with additional space inside which would also have to be bigger on the outside. I guess I have rather small ears so I figured I´d be able to manufacture some pads similar to Grado bowls that engulf my ears while still looking smallish, unlike the huge Beyer pads used by Larry.

However what interests me most is how he maintains the sound signature with these new pads. As I have said before my own circumaural prototypes from firm closed cell foam and leather left a lot to be desired in this department.

As an interim solution: Has anyone tried these HD25 velour replacement pads on their Grados? I didnt find physical specs, would they block the drivers? I am aware that these are supraaural (sit on the ears) just as Grado pads are, but they certainly look more comfy and would not compromise street cred!

I suppose it is more expensive the mod (the work in order to increase the diameter in order to fit the beyers, etc) than the beyer pads. The pads are around $30. I wouldn't save $10 by compromising (even if just a bit) the comfort.

I'm not so sure about the way they look though (that white color there... much better black), but I don't mind too much anyway.

Cheers

I am just proud to say that the headphones in the large picture in the center, at the bottom of the grado mods page are the exact ones i am wearing right now.

For people having problems with the grado/alessandro headband comfort, I just noticed something intresting.

The DT-770 pro has a padded leather (fake I presume) cover for it;s headband, that fits rather nicely over the headband of my MS-2. It does seem somewhat more comfortable.

If you find the grado headband uncomfortable, it might be a worthwhile thing to try.

Yep I noticed that too - it just wraps around and snaps in place since the headband has fasteners on it. Pretty nifty. Grados with DT770 pads and band on it - it really can get to the Darth level can't it?

Can anyone comment on the difference between Larry's mod and an RS-1? As you all may know, I love my RS-1's. However, Larry's mods look beautiful and I am very tempted to get some Grados from him as well as some Senn Woodys. Can anyone comment on their sound (Grado's and Senns). Any input would be appreciated.

Come on people. Help me empty out my wallet.

More on this...headphile now says there will be two types of circumaural mods: "alpha" (more like a senn sound with drivers farther away from ears; tone down the grados) and "beta" (pure grado sound; with drivers close to the ears a la the flats, but more comfy). Decisions-decisions.
