Chord Mojo issue solutions thread.

So Can I please ask a question. My chord Mojo Keeps switching Itself off every time I can it on the move with my iphone. I have already taken one back to the shop and they changed it for me. However I have a new one and the same problem is happening. However I have just noticed that the charging light is flashing red. Is it the case that if it is not fully charged it will keep cutting out. I am charging it now with my fingers crossed. as I have bought loads of new cables and that doesn't seem to help.

The real question is what does the light do while charging? It should be solid white while charging and turn off when fully charged. If it is blinking white, it is indicating a charging fault and is not charging. The users manual is here:

I apologize if this has been covered. I did try searching.

My understanding is that the the Mojo needs to see the 5v on the
incoming usb to wake up and get going. But does it need that 5v to
keep playing music? Want to know if I can disconnect the power leg of the usb cable.

Thanks,
Steve

The 5V bus tells mojo to autoselect the USB input.
Remove the 5V bus, and mojo will search the other inputs, and find nothing. Recent Mojos also have the updated code to auto power down, if no inputs for a certain time period.

Thanks for the info. That makes perfect sense. Maybe deliver the 5 volts via battery? Someone must have tried that already.

tried to connect with android device, nexus 6 and 5x, via OTG cable and Onkyo HF player, but signal seems to cut off periodically with no obvious reason. Any suggestion on where to start the diagnosis?
Solved by getting another OTG cable

Quick Question if anyone knows it. My Mojo's usb died. Long story short is that it was under warranty but purchased used. A nice guy at Chord referred me to Bluebird Music. Bluebird only made an initial response then I did not hear from them again. I was now stuck with a dead Mojo with nothing to lose. I was not very happy with my Mojo even before this from numerous issues it had, so I left it sitting for a few months. Last night, I opened it up to look at it and see about fixing the usb. I have limited electronics knowledge so I figured it was worth a shot as I basically had an electronic brick with fancy lights. I found the usb chip and it had what appeared to be signs of heat damage. I then ordered a new one.

I had noticed prior, that the foam on the battery really had all the components of the pcb deeply imprinted on it. I just assumed it was from the tight space inside the case. So I thought... I first just let this go due to my negative impressions on how the Mojo was engineered. Then upon closer inspection of the battery, I noticed it is swelling badly. I don't think this killed the usb as others have had similarly dead usb ports from what I have briefly read. The Mojo had just around 4 months of good use as a computer DAC. I am guessing the swollen battery is from a manufacturing defect or defective/poor regulation or both. I now have the battery in a safe place as it is a hazard.

Does anyone know where to get a replacement battery? I am torn. I don't really want to spend more money on the Mojo as I am worried that it will fail again. I think I got a lemon. It did cost a chunk of change and sounds great but has many issues. Any thoughts on a replacement battery from those who have more knowledge and experience??? My searches came up with nothing.

Thanks!

That Mojo does look in a bad way. I suspect that as well as a new battery, it ideally needs a thorough electrical check-up.

Chord do sometimes post batteries to users, who are confident at taking the device apart, and plugging the new battery in - but they may well advise the electrical check-up.

Chord usually request that Mojos are returned via your dealer (or Bluebird the distributor?), and then onto Chord. They do not like items just being posted to Chord, because there have been cases of Mojos being posted to Chord cables by accident, or the courier not supplying enough documentation to identify the owner.

Maybe  @Mojo ideas can offer some advice.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I guess a lesson for me is to not buy devices like this used due to warranty issues. This still stinks because it was less than a year old. I will look into replacing the battery. It is definitely a big hazard. There are some crazy videos out there of lithium-ion batteries going boom. I did love the sound of the Mojo despite it being finicky in my setup.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I bought mine ex-demo from a dealer, and have had no issues (admittedly I struggled to detect any signs of wear and tear).

I think chord charge about $38 for the battery alone. The cost rises if you need to ship the Mojo anywhere, and/or get a repair specialist to do the battery replacement for you.

No worries, even if it's out of warranty, a swelling battery will be looked at seriously by them.

Call Chord asap. No manufacturer wants to make the news for an exploding battery.

And more importantly than just bad press, no manufacturer wants their products to cause any harm to the public.

Not saying your battery will explode but best to notify them immediately to be safe.

Hello I'm John Franks, Relic has just made me aware of this issue. Yes the battery looks like it is about to fail catastrophically therefore please be carefull put it outside your home. I suggest you bury it if you can or put it into a strong metal container if you can't. Do not ship it anywhere as it looks too dangerous to ship. So please send me your address in a private message and I'd like to send you a new replacement unit. Also if you can advise me if the conditions in which Mojo was used or kept were different from normal useage as we have not seen anything like this before

Thanks John!

Like any other manufacturer, I know Chord cannot control how different components can behave. Lithium batteries do fail and Chord has no control over this. You just hope that the battery causes no problems when it is shipped out. This really lies in the manufacture of the battery and again this is something Chord has no direct control of.

It was really bitter for me not being able to get my Mojo back! I really loved the sound of this DAC!!!

You guys are the best!

I "searched" this thread, but didn't find anything.

When connected to my AK240, while playing .dff DSD files, I get a "Song Moved" error message. If I disconnect the Mojo, the songs play fine through the headphone jack, and through my Centrance M8.

You may have more luck on the main Mojo thread.

I wonder if it is related to the fact that Mojo will only play DSD using DoP.
