Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆

I'm looking to make a custom cable where it plugs into both the data and power ports off a single cable. I wanted to know if there would be an issue if I used the same 5V + GND lines for both of the ports.

I don't think you want to do that since the noise from two power lines (+ and -) will interfere with the digital signal lines. And I'm not sure if the signal port would allow the DC5V-2A input.

Very happy to report I’ve solved the issue. I believe it was a soldering issue of one of the caps not properly touching the board or had an air bubble in one of solders. My friend that did the job has been quite busy and I have had some to study this and after trying to recap it with the stock caps and failing decided to try the new caps again and with some patience it worked and without a doubt sounds more open to me. The rumors are true. I fkd up and burnt a bit of plastic on the charger connection but no harm. Moral of the story is. Don’t quit.
The 7.5v power supply I got for $17 works like a charm, gets me to green light charge which I think is 80%. No noise now. The other mojo went back to stock form and sounds great as well. I am guessing the boxes changed with in a years time as i have two versions one from 2017 and 2016z
I recently had an idea to connect 2x18650 batteries to the mojo and check if there would be any difference in the sound, but I'm too lazy to try))

The noise issue will be mitigated from shielding of those wires and keeping them separate from the other pair. As for the data port, I'm not sure and hence why I'm asking. Hopefully someone more electrically inclined can chime in.

Based on this post, you could be ok, because the VBUS to the data input chip is heavily filtered.

@Rob Watts is the best person to provide the definitive answer.

Yes that will work (or use a splitter). The benefit of a splitter is both sets of cables are screened.

I'd love to get a response from @Rob Watts, but I don't think he frequents these threads anymore

I do watch this thread but you are much more likely to get me to post if @Rob Watts is used, as most of the time people post great replies - before I have had a chance to read the original!

Hi Rob, if Mojo is playing and charging at the same time, would it be beneficial to tape the ground and pin connectors on the charging cable, to possibly prevent a ground loop or reduce EMI/RFI?

If you did that, the Mojo wouldn't charge.

It does charge when I do that. It only doesn't charge if I tape the power pin.
I must have misunderstood what you wrote then. The standard USB pins are Ground, Data +, Data -, Power. Ground and Power are used for charging.

Yes hence my question to Rob Watts, since it doesn't need ground and data to charge.
It can't charge on just the power pin, as there would be no return, unless the ground between both USB sockets is the same. Is that what you're thinking?
