Mine being the latest version, it is Power Pax as well, only it's the EU plug version and it's usable for all countries because its from 100V to 240V. I emailed Chord about the wall wart because I'll be moving to the US in a few years and all I'm supposed to do is get the US plug and add it on to the EU adapter.

Yet another unofficial source of one-piece Lightning to micro USB cables (with built-in CCK chips) from China, with right-angled connectors on both side

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=44240667193

JxBAPbd.jpg

This one allows us to put UpTone Audio USB ReGen between the Lightning output and Hugo

UN8WpMp.jpg

All of them cost 20 bucks or so (130 RMB) a piece since those are unofficial Lightning connectors, they might no longer work once we've updated iOS in the future.

The seller actually a disclaimer in some kinda broken English on his page, not sure if they're able to understand simple English or otherwise.

I thought Apple has some kind of proprietary hardware in their CCK's that was necessary for use with the Hugo?  Is that what UpTone Audio USB ReGen is supposed to do?

First, the Hugo does not have an Apple authenticity chip in it, therefore you cannot connect it directly to an Apple iDevice product.

You can connect the Hugo:

  1. 1)via Bluetooth
  2. 2) by purchasing an Apple Camera Connection Kit (for use with iTouch, iPhone, iPad only)
  3. and adding a USB A to Micro B cable

To be honest, Bluetooth connections with the Hugo at this point are not ideal. To further explain this, while the Hugo uses the latest in AptX technology, sadly Apple is not using the latest and this produces inferior sound quality. So until, Apple improves their bluetooth technology, we would not recommend connecting via Bluetooth for optimal sound quality. If you have a Device with AptX then this is a consideration but the wired approach will still sound better.

We will have MFI certified short 3" Right angle to Right angle Lightning cables in the next month or so. But since the Hugo requires the CCK kit it is irrelavent for this product. We do have 3" OTG Micro to Micro with right angles for Android phones. In this case a direct USB connection can be had with the Hugo as seen here:

It ain't such a big deal anymore, we could already purchase relatively new DAC/amp with bundled Lightning to micro USB (CCK built-in) cables

http://www.head-fi.org/t/760264/cozoy-astrapi-made-for-apple-portable-dac-amp-impressions-discussion-thread

We could already find plenty of unofficial CCK with the chips included, they just don't have the genuine Lightning authentication stuff and that's why the prices are much lower. Basically not really all that proprietary since the Chinese already figured out how to deal with it at least temporarily.

Is that what UpTone Audio USB ReGen is supposed to do?

ReGen should be designed to improve the signal integrity of USB outputs and so far it's been beneficial for almost all USB DACs and DDCs on the market

http://www.head-fi.org/t/762967/uptone-audio-usb-regen

Some of us were adding similar products such as Schitt Wyrd or Corning optical USB to reduce the RFI/EMI from source components, there are so many choices out there and I just mentioned ReGen as an example.

Thanks

Most likely Celsus and Cozoy won't sell those cables separately and we've gotta look elsewhere.

For now I've only seen two sellers from China and then another one from Taiwan who are selling such cables.

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=43233663546
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=44240667193

Chinese ones are much cheaper at roughly 20 bucks a pop, they don't speak English and they won't ship internationally unless we're going through "taobao agent" of some sort.

Another one from PPA Studio in Taiwan costs $199 shipped to anywhere in the world, all of them aren't certified by the MFi program and that's why those cables might not work anymore after we've updated iOS in the future.

It's a pain to get such cables with built-in CCK chips unless they're coming from Asia.

Thanks. I wished I can read simplified Chinese.
The last link are some serious audiophile quality cords.  $499 and higher.

Some of this is off topic but thought I would also cover some info on Android with the Hugo as well as we get asked all the time.

But first, Apples OS wont let you output HD resolution files to the Hugo with out the help of an app like Onkyo's app and Flac Player. This can be good and bad. Once you use these apps, if you are married to iTunes, you will need to find another program to sync your music. As iTunes will not sync to these apps.

As far as iMac using a program like Audirvana or Jriver is my recommendation. Jriver for cataloging and Audirvana for playback as it sounds better.

On Android based phones it is a whole other animal.

Android has finally released LollyPop 5.0 OS for Android as an update on devices that had previously OS 4.0 series. We have a Galaxy TabS 8.4 that we just updated. Some other devices like the new Galaxy Note and such have come pre-installed with LollyPop. There has been a report from some of our customers that the iQube V5 (http://www.moon-audio.com/iqube-v5-portable-headphone-amp-dac.html) is having an issue with the Android Tidal App as well as some other apps like Vplayer. So we did some investigating into the new LollyPop OS. What is unique to these apps is that they were unable to output USB digital audio to USB dacs before with Android 4.0. This OS did not allow this. There was/is a work around with the USB Audio Player App ( http://www.extreamsd.com/USBAudioRecorderPRO/ ) which will allow you to output USB digital audio to USB dacs but only music stored on your device. You can not use this app to stream music from an internet source.

On both Android 4.0 and 5.0 OS USB Audio Player App works flawlessly. But with streaming Tidal we are having issues in 3 out of 4 Amp/Dacs. We tested the Iqube V5, and the new coming soon Peachtree Shift and  Ral KEB-03. None of them worked with Tidal but all worked with USB Audio Player App. The iQube V5 will play it half the time but with some distortion and other times just a clicking sound and no Music. The Shift and the Ral KEB-03 blasted out a full volume noise that nearly took out 1 of my ears:) With Apple OS the Ral and PeachTree are similar in that with an Apple iPhone you can control the volume with the phone itself. The Shift has no volume control and the volume control on the Ral is defeated when used with an Apple iDevice. This caused issues with Android I guess. The iQube does not have an Apple Coprocessor like the 2 others so a camera kit is required and thus the iQube controls the volume.

The Hugo work flawlessly in all situations. Another benefit of this great piece. I have a ton more amps to test with but have not had a chance with. For which units have issues and which dont with the new Android OS. And I plan to put a chart on our Blog and in our Forum here on Headfi.

Here is some info I have established to help. Android 4,x dose not include USB Audio Driver. Android 5.x includes USB Audio Driver like USB Audio Class 1 running at Full Speed(12Mbps). 'USB Audio Player Pro App' includes original USB Audio Class 1 for Full Speed and USB Audio Class 2 for High Speed drivers and uses these original drivers to output audio. The App bypasses the USB Audio Driver included Android OS. Both SONY Walkman App and ONKYO HFPlayer app also include and use original USB Audio Class 2 drivers.

Tidal streaming service uses 16/44.1kHz PCM on USB. But as it does not include a USB driver, it uses USB Driver inside Android. It is not compatible with USB Audio Class2 High Speed, so tested units RAL-KEB03, Peachtree Shift and Iqube V5 do not work properly. Hugo can support USB Audio Class 1 and falling back to Full Speed, they work with Android OS driver.

For Apple iDevices I recommend ONKYO HFPlayer App, it supports up to 24/384kHz PCM and DSD11.2MHz(DoP) and works fine with Class 2 and High speed compatible USB dacs.

Is this the premium version?  Are there any other add on cost associated?
