Yes. But saying it's a delta sigma hides an awful lot of sins - it can go from awful to astounding depending upon a huge number of factors, the largest of these being the oversampling rate. For example, going from 64FS to 2048FS produces a huge change in performance - and that is just one example. I have been working with noise shapers for 20 years and I am still discovering ways of improving the sound.

when I get my Hugo May/June I'll happily oblige but I did do a little test last night on my portable set-up Sony F887/PHA-2 DAC/Amp... the volume on the PHA is about 20% more than the Walkman using hi-gain with my IEM's (N5).

I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience listening to Celebration Day (Led Zep) at full volume & max bass (I felt obliged as I always do with this Album), the volume levels were crazy loud & the bass was pretty mental, there was no distortion... needless to say my ears are now in training for a white-light experience... ok silly question time... will I be able to use the Walkman's line-out to the Hugo using a mini-jack?

If the Hugo is connected to the AC power supply permanently, can it be left on 24/7 or should it be switched off when not in use?

And a further question for Rob Watts - do you have a rough idea when the replacement for the QBD76 will be available? I will definitely be in the queue to buy one.

That is indeed a very good question. I can't wait to hear it.

Just a quick question, i am picking up some background noise using my sensitive IEM (FAD VI) is that normal? It is the kind that increase with volume increase.

My preference has always been optical - it's much smoother, and more natural. Generally, optical is not liked as it has more jitter than coax, but all my DAC's have been able to remove incoming source jitter. The benefits optical has is that it reduces ground induced RF noise from the source, and this is responsible for the warmer sound as noise floor modulation is reduced in the analogue stages.

Alright mate, did chord mention about a cable that will go from the iPhone to the chord Hugo directly? Apple only want us to use their cable hence the chip

Think I'll be buying the book DAC for dummies to join into these conversations,Christ I don't know what I've been doing with my life!

I leave mine permanently plugged in. The charger will either switch off, or run in constant current trickle charge mode. I keep Hugo on permanently too.

I have a very exact time for when the QBD76 replacement is ready - when it has been perfected!

Sorry, I can't give a date when that will happen though. What I can say is I have the prototypes in my hands, and I am trying to get FPGA timing closure on a very large number of taps.

So it is very exciting at the moment.

Im glad someone asked you about QBD76 compared.....to the Hugo, very interesting read,it only makes sense to improve the QBD 76 considering the price difference to the Hugo.I wonder if prices will come down as well,tv's drop in price and the Hugo is very well priced,I know tv's are a mass market but it would be nice, feel like hifi is for the mega rich these days, look at focal utopias and now naim with their pre/power combo, prices massive jump over inflation

you've been listening to the end result, the music... [IMG]

I think you'll still need two leads same as with my ZX1 or F887... in truth, I never thought to ask about Apple stuff but I will utter a comment when I speak to them later.

Just when I gave up on IM04 plugged it into HUGO and the iem sounds completely different in a really good way.
