It's less to do with the quality of the signal and nothing at all to do with the quality of the toslink cable. Chord sent me a cable that didn't work at 192kHz and neither did my own QED Reference cable. (I also tried other cheaper cables that had been proved to work by other users). Chord explained it by saying that 196kHz would only be available if the plug and the socket were perfectly aligned and from that point onwards changed the specification on their website. Alas the manual had already been printed!

Weird. I never had any issues getting 24/192 over toslink to the Qutest. I think I even used an Amazon Basics cable for a little bit. Now I have something to feel lucky about. Highlight of my week so far.

However, there is no way to hear a sound quality difference between 96 kHz and 192 kHz sampling rate - if this is the only difference. Not for human hearing.

Agree with their view, and this optical kabeldirekt from Amazon is a great option and Rob Watts himself has recommended it in the past and it is cheap!

That’s because you need a very good signal for it to work. 96kHz is easier to achieve.

My guess is that they don’t want a lot of people complaining that 192kHz doesn’t work in their systems.

Try the Audioquest Forest, yes its a single strand cable.. but i think that is its strength together with the plugs fitting tightly.

Nomatter how much i try to wobble its plugs in Mscaler and Dave toslink sockets.. it firmly plays 192k without drops.
