Thirdly, I made sure that Hugo 2 will function with no batteries connected at all, just the charger. So if you intend to use it as a desktop DAC, you do not need to worry about battery life.
That hasn't been the case for me. When the batteries died, I couldn't get the Hugo2 turned on for more than a second even with the charger connected (been using it with a 2Go as an always-on solution).
I just had the batteries replaced though, so I'm good for a few more years.

Guess I spoke too soon. Even with the batteries replaced, the Hugo2 doesn't charge. I tried with different chargers.
Something must be malfunctioning in the charging circuit...

Who replaced the batteries for you? If it was a technician, I would have expected them to test that your Hugo 2 worked/charged correctly again, before shipping the device back to you.

I asked because I am also not interested in anything until Hugo3 comes out, modern DAPs cannot compete. The Hugo2 alone or with a good tube amp is exceptional. I respect that Chord isn't willy nilly cranking out products, my Hugo2 is still TOTL after all these years. If there is one request I could make @Rob Watts , it would be to include 4.4mm since all the TOTL IEM cables are in 4.4mm and currently have to use an adapter to use them, as you know everything in the chain makes a difference and I would prefer not to. thanks

You can just remove the BMS from the battery. Solder a nickel strip to the BMS and spot weld the nickel to any “quality” 18650 cell. I use molicells due to their ability to put out high amps. I doubt the Hugo will ever pull 40 amps lol but given how easy it is to change the cells I just use what I’ve always stuck with. I use their cells in all the battery packs I build.

Given how much repairs I’ve done on my Hugo 2 I’m surprised it still works. Stupid me got tripped up in the cord which sent my Hugo2 in a free fall which landed on the headphone jack cracking it. I ended up buying a replacement headphone jack and soldering that back on. External beautiful but internally she’s got battle wounds. I’ll keep her in life support if I got to. I’ve learned a lot taking her apart tens of times over. :frowning2:

Not for some considerable time sadly - I have several other projects to complete first before I start on the design.
Given how well Hugo 2 is holding up to the times I can hold out a few years. Besides with technological advances taking place. When you get the opportunity to dig into it you’ll have even better FPGA’s to tinker with!

Hello all, I just grabbed my MacBook pro M3 max and I found that there are problems when pairing with Hugo 2, which had never happened with my intel MBP before.

Scenario 1: MBP > usb cable > Hugo2 (No Sound)
Scenario 2: MBP > Apple AV multiport > usb cable > Hugo2 (No Sound)

my MBP had pop up reminder & ask me to accept the device, but turn out nothing happened. I am wondering it can be fixed by Chord or apple? & so tired to have usb cable test in the long run, sigh~
