That hasn't been the case for me. When the batteries died, I couldn't get the Hugo2 turned on for more than a second even with the charger connected (been using it with a 2Go as an always-on solution).Thirdly, I made sure that Hugo 2 will function with no batteries connected at all, just the charger. So if you intend to use it as a desktop DAC, you do not need to worry about battery life.
I just had the batteries replaced though, so I'm good for a few more years.
