Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

No controls visible, but we can only see he top. It has four scalloped indents that align with the Hugo button indents to form circular indentations when connected. It looks like it lengthens the Hugo by about 25% or 30%. If it’s like Poly, it will turn on when Hugo is turned on. This one is black but presumable there will be silver also. Can’t see the SD slot(s) or charging port, or whatever else may be on the end.
Thanks for that. Sounds interesting.

Has anyone here used an iPhone as a Roon endpoint, feeding the Hugo 2 simply with this lightning to USB adapter:

https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MK0W2AM/A/lightning-to-usb-3-camera-adapter

So with this you have the iPhone as a battery based USB source

It's really really nice sounding.... I also have a Sonore ultraRendu and Uptone ISO REGEN but I'm really liking the iPhone.

Maybe with the tradeoff between airborne RFI (iPhone is a computer and wireless transmitter) vs NO mains power conducted RFI (iPhone running off battery), the latter is the lesser of the 2 evils and this is why it sounds so nice?

I still try to keep the iPhone 1ft away from Hugo2 - every inch counts right (inverse sq law?)

Has anyone else played around with this?

I know nobody claims to make a PERFECT isolation device out there (capacitive coupling?) but maybe these USB isolation devices aren't isolating as well as I first thought... especially perhaps RF isolation.

Of course it's never been a secret that you can't get better mains power isolation than battery based though right?

Curious on others thoughts and experiences with the iPhone as their Roon endpoint.

Cheers!

Edit: I should add that I look a bit silly because I've never used my Mojo or Hugo2 mobile. So the many of you using a DAP or your phones as your source for a long while will need to excuse my ignorance here. This is the first time I've used a battery based USB source. My Macbook has always been plugged in with the wall charger when listening to music.

I apologise deeply if anything I say in this post is in any way wrong.

I was recently on the cusp of buying a Poly, and was given a Poly/Mojo case by Audio T in Manchester. (I had asked if they could 'chuck me a Poly case' in with my Hugo 2 purchase. They were kind enough to say yes.)

However I later read of an issue when the Poly and Mojo play together from the SD card. I was told in the Poly thread, that they suffer hardware synchronisation and missing first half second of music. (The same as when using USB from a computer.) On a computer though we can buy JRiver and insert a second's silence to allow for hardware synchronisation. On a Poly I don't know if there is a solution when playing from SD card, (which uses USB). I asked in both Poly and Mojo thread, but no-one had found some software that compensated.

Unfortunately as I would only use the Poly as an SD-card player. I have now decided I could not live with clipping off the start of some tracks. I know it only affects the start of newly manually selected tracks, like when selecting a new album. However it upset me sufficiently enough on computer, to decide against buying a Poly.

Please, then is it possible that Chord can implement a fix for this, for Poly and 2Go. By inserting a second's silence to allow for hardware synchronisation. It would mean that after pressing play, that there would be a short pause before the music engaged. However I would be happy with that. (*Get's emotional thinking about this right now*.) Whereas under the current method playing from SD-card with the Poly, I would not buy a Poly. (Or a 2Go if it were the same.)

I understand that there is hype around the fact that the Poly reacts quickly. I realise that inserting silence to allow for hardware synchronisation would negate that hype. However for me the clipping the start of a track is a deal-breaker for me. .... Please can you either point us to some software that compensates for hardware synchronisation. I am hoping I understood right that Chord are developing a Poly app. If so, please can it compensate for hardware synchronisation. Or could you please implement a second's silence in the Poly firmware.

P.S. I think the Qutest is impossibly good looking.

Yes this is correct - the timer is set by connection of the charger - no power on the charger will cause the timer to reset. When you turn off Hugo 2, it is still in desktop mode, but the battery gets fully charged. Once fully charged, the charger will stop charging the battery - it is having a full charge voltage present that wears out the battery. The reason I did this was if you want to use it mobile say tomorrow, then simply turn it off, then it will be ready and fully charged for mobile use.

Is it premised that desktop mode is not turn it off even when not using it? Why?
