Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

Hmm, I am not sure if I will be of any help, since I can only provide a wild guess.
But if HUGO 2 is reasonably transparent, which by the way,I have quite strong reasons to believe that it actually is.

I would guess something like: Sh.. in /Sh.. out might describe results quite well?

But on the other hand, in order to stay really on the safe side as far SQ is concerned, you might actually need to first re-record "bands like Warbringer, Havok, Megadeath, Death Angel?" via an iPhone and then play it back via DAVE and then record that signal via a Samsung Smartphone before finally playing it back in all is glory, via HUGO 2.
You wouldn't want to risk losing any of the very important low level fine detail resolution would you?
Then again, there is always the risk of having really vital things getting lost in translation.....
Sorry, but I just could not resist responding.
Cheers Christer

I didn't realise I'd get that many snobby replies, thanks guys I appreciate it.

Why the stop sign?
She is after all, one of "those gals", whose albums sound good via basically any system.
No wonder she is in such heavy demand in HI FI shops and a clear favourite as demo material by many if not all, makers of HI FI products.
I'm absolutely certain, without even a shadow of a doubt, that she sounds good via HUGO 2 ,2
I have to confess that I was a bit tempted to go to one of her live concerts in Singapore, just to get an idea of how she actually sounds live and not only close-mic'd in a studio.
But the exhorbitant price of entry, and a frankly even more tempting offer of the "sectarian kind" made me change my mind.
Well well...U-go or U -don't. And I didn't.
But I certainly wouldn't want to put a no go sign over her like you did.
Cheers Christer

Well it's just painful for certain individuals to read about people listening to something else than 'high information content music' without having asked the audiophile thought police... BTW I checked a few Classical songs on Tidal and those where the lowest Bitrate Redbook files I've ever seen...

Anyways I feel it's time for a group hug :)

Cover band, banking on the "better than thou".

Boy your funny.... Or is it another word I am looking for?
Sectarianism seems to be one of your strong suits

Sorry but I couldn't resist, either...

Not to worry, chicken curry.
And of course I admit to being a bit sectarian when it comes to highend HIFI and the most suitable music genres in that context. But that is not exactly a secret by now?
Or is it?

@Christer : Was that a racial slur? :D

No its not a secret, but what bugs me a bit is the portrail of the complete lack of empathy towards others (people's taste).
But I quess we live in an egocentric age...

Boy this is going in my anti-manifesto :)

Question on sample rate indicator color...

I find it accurate on the first play, but if I shift to another album, at a different rate, the color does not change. To get color change, the unit must power down and turn back on again.

Am I not understanding it properly?

Hey @Peter Hyatt

It should change colors.
Was it maybe the change from 44 KHz to 48Khz?

Cheers

Just got the UK Tour unit and changes colour for me using both UAPP on Android or JRiver on PC.

Well this is encouraging :)
I remember other members talking about driving speakers with comparable sensitivity (88db), directly from H1...

May I asked what kind of music you are listening with this setup?
Rather just Classical or can H2 make your BWs rock out?

Concerning potential risk I can't really be of help, but I quess as long as there is no clipping at all, one click up won't blow the drivers :)
I am thinking about using a single fullrange driver and in the specs the sensitivity is often rated at xxxdb at 2.83V ... So I am not sure if H2 might be too hot, resulting in clipping?

Anyways I will try this with the 92db Tang Bang W5 2143 I have flying around, first... DIY TIME :D

EDIT : I guess more than 2.83V won't hurt the drivers, the way I understand is that for an 8 Ohm driver 2.83V equal 1Watt, so I wonder if H2 can bring more to the table than the nominal 1 Watt. Can anyone help clear this up for me?

I listen to any kind of music but classical. In my setup, Hugo2 has sufficient output when listening to the speakers within 3m range.
For some of the old CDs recorded at low volume, I may not get enough volume out of Hugo2. So I'm still waiting for Rob's power amp.

If you are not at white, you will be fine.

And I would have thought that Hugo 2 clipping power is not powerful enough to damage tweeters. It would be obvious if it clips. Note driving direct with efficient speakers won't fill a room with sound, but it works very well for near field monitoring with efficient 8 ohm speakers. You can fill a room with 100 dB horns though!

Rob, thank you for clarification.

As you mentioned, direct drive works in specific situations when 1. speakers are highly efficient and having more than 8 ohm 2. Listening at close range (in my case, about 3m from the speakers) 3. Source is recorded at decent volume. If those conditions are met, Hugo2 / Dave provide very nice music experience at maximum transparency!

( I'm still waiting for your Power Pulse Array very much and would really appreciate if there is any news or update ... have you decided the project name? Will both Dave / Hugo2 will work with your Power Pulse Array?)
