Chinese / Asian Brand Info Thread (On or Over Ear Headphones)

I tried changing the pads on the LyxPro HAS-30 (for some obscure reason), and nothing else came close to the stock pads.

For whatever reason, the Akai people recycled that terrific basic headphone design (frame, earcups, headband, wiring)--but used different, inferior pads & screwed up the sound & feel. I'll bet that if you put the pads from my Marantz MPH-2s on an Akai 50X, the 2 headphones would sound and feel indistinguishable from each other...

Pharma, actually, between your commentary and Cruelhand's, I actually went with the LyxPro 30 pads, which as his link shows, was $9. So I ended up getting a "LyxPro 30" or "MDH9000" for $29.50 total.

@Slater

I got those Philips SHL3300 in today. Not going to lie, sound wise they are fantastic. Philips knows how to make headphones sound great. But comfort and build quality on these is pretty bad though. Still they were $15 bucks for me. Still I am going to have to switch out the earpads at a minimum. They clamp hardcore, the pads are on-ear rocks basically, and feels like I put my head in a vise wearing them. Lack of detachable cable with a horrible cable that is attach is also a major turn off. Basically buy it for the potential and to mod it. The drivers are freaking great. Everything else is ugh.
@Slater Do the drivers look like they would be able to swap into something else?

Ironically you and I got the same deal basically ...I paid a little under $30 and got the Akai 50X with Senitek cloth pads,,,the ironic part is that, I WANTED to get the pads you got, but for some reason I didn't find the link I gave you until after I had already gotten the Senitek pads....but, I was glad I could pass it along to you, before you made the same (small) mistake I made.
and to be honest, I really like the Senitek pads, I just think the Akai probably sounds better with the leather ones.

Well then, you got a terrific deal!

The cheapest of my 3 ISK MDH9000 clones was the 1st of 2 Marantz MPH-2s ($39.99 @Guitar Center online)--and I still think that was a great deal because decent-or-better headphones for under $50 is pretty amazing--even more because these headphones are so solid in every way.

Frankly, I'd probably rather have the Marantz at $40, but I've always been a fan of the Marantz brand. That being said, I'm glad I listened to all of you, because those and the Sivga SV007s have been awesome.

Now I just have to find a good budget amp/DAC to power them.

Also anyone know the difference betwen isk hd2011, hd2010 and mdh9500 soundwise?

Can you remove just the driver part from that larger housing? and if so, do you know the diameter of such driver?

They are standard 40mm drivers. I've pulled the drivers from 1 of my SHL3300 before, and transplanted them into a different headphone.
