Hello Andy,

Will there be an R2R released similar to the N6ii? I would love to hear about that if it’s in the pipeline.
Cheers

Best Regards,
Enrico

And not a 1 Bit like the N7 which I already own. A balanced class A R2R if possible. I’ll get one for sure. Thanks guys.

Any reputable online shop in Europe to buy the N6iii yet? (Not UK, custom fees are a pain :) )

Greetings all! This is my very first post in Head-Fi. I’ve been browsing so many posts in here learning from all…so thank you! I somehow stumbled upon this thread as I was looking to buy my very first DAP, the iBasso DX260, and ended up buying the N6III instead!

I just received it today and WOW! The quality is just amazing!! I’m just blown away by it! Even the leather case is stunning! I really like the black and gold aesthetics. This thing is built like a tank! It just feels and looks like an elite device.

I don’t have much portable audio experience at this point…at least not within recent years. My point of reference isn’t as strong or perhaps as relevant, but I’ll drop my two-cents here in case it helps someone else who might find themselves in my shoes trying to decide.

In testing with the Drop + Campfire Audio Dark Star iem, I went back and forth between the N6III and the FiiO Q15 (maybe a million times). I might need a new sound card already as I think I wore out the 4.4 balanced jack…lol. I configured both as close as possible with all settings and set the volume as level as my ears could detect.

I know the Fiio Q15 is not a DAP, but it gave me a chance to compare the warm sounding AKM DAC vs the Cirrus x8. I tend to prefer warmer sound, so I had some doubts regarding the Cirrus x8 based on a the reviews I’ve read on the iBasso DX260. The ability to change the board out, however, gave me the confidence to buy this though.

So my expectations weren’t high that this would provide the sound signature I enjoy, and boy was I wrong. This thing is amazing! It made the Drop + CFA Dark Star sound better. Compared to the AKM based Fiio, the Cayin N6III, had improved sub bass. It wasn’t deeper…I’d say it was equally as deep with the same exact presence, but more detail and rumble in the bass. Slightly more boom, but with so much control. The bass is better! I like bass so win!

Mid bass to me has the same presence, but again definitely had more punch. The dynamics just seem better in all areas of frequency response.

Vocals were ever so slightly elevated over the Fiio and had just as much body and weight, while sounding just slightly cleaner. My fears over the lack of warmth were completely dispelled.

Treble was definitely more present and brighter, but never too sharp…just right! The level of detail beat out that of the Fiio.

I know plenty are wanting/waiting for the AKM board…based on my limited experience and posts/reviews I’ve read…I was thinking I maybe should wait, too. Glad I didn’t…I honestly prefer Cayin’s delivery of the Cirrus x8 over the AKM in the FiiO.

And because I’m newer to all this…I’m excited for Cayin to release more sound cards so I can compare and discover if there’s a sound signature I might enjoy even more.

I just love this thing…

Oh, I was listening via Apple Music. About 2 hours into listening, I did experience an issue with Apple Music. I was getting a “Network Unavailable” error, however, I had Network access…all other apps worked just fine.

I tried everything to resolve.

1) Cleared Apple Music cache and storage.
2) Uninstalled and reinstalled Apple Music.
3) Powered the N6III on and off.
4) Finally, a complete factory reset fixed it.

Hopefully, this is just a one-off glitch. I’ll report back if it happens again/repeatedly.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for now.

Thank you 😊

Hello there! This is Gold Fox speaking!

As a fresher of Cayin, I'll be assisting Andy in answering any questions you may have.

Any questions, suggestions, food recommendation when you're travelling to China, blah blah… feel free to @ me in post or PM me—I’m more than happy to help!

——Although, just like Andy, I'm not an engineer. So, if you ask me about how to fix this and that up—well, that’d a headache for me:deadhorse:

For aftersales service, I’d strongly recommend reaching out to your local dealer /place of purchase at first place, they are responsible for assisting you with any issues you faced, and I’m quite convinced that our responsible dealer will be more than happy to help you resolve them; alternatively, you can reach out to our customer service team, our engineers are always a reliable choice.
Having my graduate certificate received at the beginning of this year, attended the graduate ceremony in the UK, throw the graduation cap 🎓 to the sky and bid farewell to the ivory tower, bid farewell to the life that you’re familiar with for decade.

I was graduated, standing in front of the crossroad of my career.

Ever since graduating, I, have been pondering one question: ‘what kind of job should I pursue?’

It seems that the options are vast, but the ones that truly suit are always few and far between.

I thought to myself, ‘what if I could find a job that aligns with my interests? As an audiophile, is there a way to work in a field that connects with my passion?’

And that's how I ended up at Cayin, and that's also why you're seeing me here:L3000:
Honestly, this name came to mind while I was reading Goethe's Faust.

In Part I Scene V: Auerbach’s Cellar in Leipzig, it depicts:

(Friends happily drinking.)
Frosch
Will none of you laugh? Nobody drink?
I’ll have to teach you to smile, I think!
You’re all of you like wet straw today,
And usually you’re well away.
Brander
That’s up to you, you bring us nothing.
Nothing dumb, or dirty, nothing.
Frosch (Pouring a glass of wine over Brander’s head.)
You can have both!
Brander
Rotten swine!
Frosch
You wanted them both, so you got mine!

For those German readers, you may be quite familiar with the name "Brander," as it actually symbolizes a unique tradition of university naming culture. The record I found states the following:

The student receives different names, according to the duration of his abode at college. While he yet vegetated in the gymnasium he was a Frosch--a frog. In the vacation which lay between the time of his quitting the gymnasium and entering the university, he chrysalized himself into a mule, and on entering the university, he becomes a Kameel--Camel. This happy transition-state of a few weeks gone by, he comes forth finally, on entering a Chore, a Fox, and runs joyfully into the new Burschen life. During the first semester, or half-year, he is a gold fox, which means, that he has foxes, or rich gold in plenty yet; or he is a Crass-fuchs, or fat fox, meaning that he yet swells or puffs himself up with gold. In the second half-year he becomes a Brand-fuchs, or fox with a brand, after the foxes of Samson. The fox year is then over, and they wash the eyes of the new-baked Young Bursche, since during the fox-year he was held to be blind, the fox not being endued with reason. From Young Bursche he advances next to Old Bursche, and then to Bemossed Head, the highest state of honour to which man can attain.

Very interesting, very interesting! Since this is my first year at Cayin, why not call it ‘Gold Fox’!

Great review! Many thanks for sharing your thoughts!

And regarding the bug of apple music, it does seem quite strange. Normally, this shouldn’t be happening:thinking:

Please keep an eye on it, and if it ever occurs again, please let me know

I see it as less likely to happen honestly.. their success with the 1bit is huge, both n7 and ru7, and would be easier to implement probably.
Regarding the motherboards to be coming

We can't guarantee that there will be a R2R one, well honestly, even though there is, I won't be able to tell, otherwise I'll become 'fired fox'

And in fact it's related to the way our engineer develop the N6iii's motherboards, instead of creating a roadmap, saying first this, then that, and then.... our engineers had a rather radical but interesting idea: if we want users to "play it with fun," why not start from "design it with fun"?

We decided to play experiment with different DAC and topology. And when the day comes that they find out something truly interesting, sounds truly great—BANG—that will be the next motherboard for the N6iii

Anyone know what the os looks like? Does it have access to any apps or is it locked down like the n3 ultra?
The OS is a customized Android 12, which, you can install whatever the apps you like via Google Store or the file manager, it's just like using a normal Android phone——well except for one thing: it sounds better
