Depends on the headphone. All things being equal, the R01 is overall a warmer module than the E02, but the R01 cannot drive bigger, hungrier headphones properly like the E02 can. The amp stages for each module are pretty different afaik. When it comes to bass, that means inefficient headphones will have weaker, less dynamic, less controlled bass on the R01 than the E02. Some of that carries through to the whole frequency response though, so the whole headphone's sound will be impacted, not just the bass. With efficient IEMs though, no contest the R01 is superior.

I wonder if you might be better to get the A02 module as it uses the same DAC as the N8, then you can link it to a C9 which uses the same Nutubes as the N8 although it this case a pair so that you can have balanced output in tube mode (unlike the N8).
Anyway, just an idea...The R01 is very good though if you just want the one device. The A02/C9 combo is another step up and gives you more options to modify the sound too with all the amp settings.
I haven't heard the N8.
The only problem would be, that the A02 module isn't available anywhere, even on ebay I could not find it.
There is a rumour that Cayin may be about to release (in October) a limited run of 500 units of the A02 worldwide- @Andykong, is there any truth to it?

Never heard of that, I doubt seriously, but I didn't have access to the production schedule.

thanks for this.
Any idea bout a Hifiman Ananda though? Should be a much easier to drive hp but still jst wondering if there wouldn't be any problem for the R01 to drive it?

Just acquired N6ii with a whole set of mother boards (A01, E01, E02, R01) for a great price in the Classifieds (including a leather Dignis case). R01 was the first motherboard I explored. I have to say coming from Hiby R8 I was a bit underwhelmed even with R01 on balanced listening to U12T —until— I hooked it ul as pre-amp to Cayin C9 on Korg nu-tubes + Class A. Then- then- Wow!! An explosion of sounds. Bass detail, texture, and impact excellent, mids came forward with detail. U12T is already a bit treble forward so this did not alter that - lower treble especially forward and bright but smooth not shouty, and upper treble very detailed and extended. The N6ii- C9 pairing is like 2 lost twins coming together. It is fairly amazing. R8->C9 is very very good also, but this is something extra-ordinary! Sorry I know this is ‘old news’- I must be the final audiophile to discover the N6ii! Better late than never!

Hello Cayin users!

I have been enjoying my E02 board with some larger cans (ZMF Verite) but recently decided to get into the IEM world and bought the Solaris LE.

I’m hoping I can just connect the following adapter to connect the 4.4 mm output on the E02 to the 3.5mm plug on the Solaris.

Just hoping someone can confirm for me that this is the thing to do. Thanks!

Yes you can hook the adapter and IEM up together, then into the N6ii.
