Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP

I found another in Poland still under warranty for almost a year for 500 € And I think I'll take it because here in Germany I would probably have to pay a 19% tax, it won't be NO much cheaper and without a guarantee, and it's not really known what condition it is in, it only says used

So this will be the best choice for me at the price of 500€? yet this Sony NWWM1AM2 intrigues me and also costs 500€ ?

if you can get the wm1am2 for the same price, by all means it is the better choice

And how about the sound on this Sony how would you describe it?
I don't know about the second model, but I have the first and everything that ypu mentioned about the AKM chips stands very true for my experience with the wm1a, the second model is meant to improve on that

on pure technicalities a firmware modded wm1a is leagues over the n6ii in my opinion, and is up there with desktop gear

That is purely your opinion and I don't agree with you but that is another discussion.

If you can get the Sony for that price go for it because if you don't like it it is going to be an easy sell

Putting my 2 cents

Wm1a it's easily one of the best daps that is/will be there, it's really hard to not like it's signature and using custom fws and changing regions, it's really easy to love, the interfacd is super intuitive and the battery maaaan. though power wise... You got better options

N6II Ive read someone saying that a01 it's not as good as e02 or e01, the cool thing is that you get to choose the dac signature, a01 it's actually quite outstanding, akm4497 is one of the best DACs from akm and it's lushness and crisp sound it's really amazing, e01 it's bold, full of dynamics, amazing in many ways. I love how it resolves and how it works. I haven't been able to try r01 but t01 it's beautiful raw power experience with clean fq, actually sub Bass on this one it's amazing. My point being, it's such a dynamic player and it can morph easily swapping the boards. I've been tempted to sell mine but everytime I switch the board I fall again for it, just wished the wifi on mine wasn't so wacky

Cayin n6iis show up in head Fi classifieds reasonably often in this price range depending on which board(s) come with it.

I bought a used n6ii with an A01 and R01 for $650 on Audiogon about 6 months ago and it has become my default travel/out of the house dap. With R01, I couldn't be happier. Because of its streaming abilities (my other DAP, L&P P6Pro cost 3x and doesn't stream), n6ii is also my go to for music discovery.

The fact that I can go from P6Pro to n6ii and not feel like I'm missing out too much is a testament to the SQ of n6ii. It's also a small and light dap.

Now I have a problem with it. Sony NWWM1A M2 it was purchased in the EU and has a volume lock there is no way to bypass it, at least for now colleagues write that I should look for other equipment because I will be dissatisfied that it will play so quietly ?

It "should" output plenty of power for most IEM’s and even most high efficiency headphones but I have the volume limited version and at around 75% volume, which is loud enough for me I get some audible distortion in the output with my unit. It looks to me like Sony are giving a hand gesture to the EU for having such a silly rule and just can’t be bothered to implement a decent solution to the EU law on volume limits. I would not buy the volume limited EU version, in fact I’m not buying another Sony DAP.

I have a problem with USB Audio Player Pro (UAPP). I am not sure if the problem comes from the latest UAPP update in July 2023. I am using UAPP as a uPnP renderer to output to a USB DAC for my headphone listening. Basically I use N6ii just as a uPNP streamer as my DAC is better than the DAC inside N6ii and I have a separate tube headphone amp.

It used to stream DSD via uPNP alright. But since the July 2023 UAPP update I can't stream DSD to my DAC anymore. DSD songs play with very small volume and a loud hissing noise in the background. Non-DSD PCM files plays ok. I can of course configure N6ii to convert DSD to PCM and it will play. but that degrades the sound.

Anyone faces similar problem?
