Cayin N5ii Android based Master Quality Digital Audio Player

Finally get my hands on a brand new N5iiS. Its stainless steel chassis makes N5iiS looks very high-end, pure and fresh. N5iiS 3.5” LG panel IPS-TFT screen provides wider viewing angle with clear, sharp image, which is very comfortable to operate. However, N5iiS(248g) is a little heavier than N5ii, but that’s exactly fitting well with practical girls.

Nice looking. But as it is nearly 50% price increase, does it sound better?
Would have been a really nice extra if the output power was also increased like on the Opus 1S compared to the original opus 1

I posted my review on Cayin N5ii on Head-Fi as well :)

I took out some photos from the original Audiophile-Heaven article, and since nowadays I have a slightly better vocabulary, after having learned better Engliush, I tried expressing things with that new vocabulary here and there, thus some of the differences in the written content. I think it is still a pretty interesting device with a lot going on for it, would still recommend it at its price point :)

I think if you think of this unit as a fantastic player for music stored natively on the SD cards, then its great. I just when you start wanting to use the Android apps or feed an external DAC then you get into some difficulty.

For a stand-alone DAP, this is a very fine unit especially at the price point.

I personally am disappointed with the HiBy R3; I don’t think it can touch this Cayin. What is amazeballs for the price is the new Shanling M0.

But it you want a great sounding unit with the provisos above noted, for $300 US it is hard to beat this device.

Yeah I also got to try out the R3 recently.

Reminds me of the Sony NW-A series. Delivers on UI but is underwhelming SQ wise.

It's big brother the R6 on the other hand I would consider as a side grade (sound wise)compared to the N5ii. It's smoother sounding while the N5ii is more analytical.

This is the R6 Stainless Steel version btw.

From $369 to $499? That's $130, about 30% increase from original price.

My dear friend, It is unfair to use EOL discount to judge the price performance of new model. There won't be EOL discount for N5ii if we don't have the N5iiS in place. With your argument, maybe you should compare the N5iiS with N6 as well, at the final discount price, N6 is cheaper and sounds a lot better, so on paper, that is a even better deal.

For the record, N5iiS offers the followings at $130 price adjustment:

This is a very valid point, but should we compare N5iiS to N5 if you are referring to the different of two DAPs that are around 2 years apart?

Yeah and the Opus 1S was a planned upgrade to begin with too unlike the N5iiS.

But one can dream

Hey Andy, the change location and cache wipe didn't work. Any other suggestions?

It's not a big issue but just a little irritating to see.

Acknowledge, I'll take a look into this and come back to you later.

We know time-zone at Kolkata is having problem, so which location has you tried as well?

better Engliush?

Sorry, can't resist that offer, I make similar mistakes and was on the other side of the joke most of the time. :beerchug:

That's N5ii with HiFiman RE2000? I prefer dynamic over BA IEMs in general. I tried N5ii with RE800 and love what I heard, so this is thge combo that I am looking forward to.
